The Ratline

I really loved the premise of this game, but unfortunately, the execution does not do it justice. The developer has clearly studied the genre, and it has some genuinely good ideas and interesting plots. Unfortunately, for me, almost nothing about actually attempting to solve these cases clicked with me, so a lot of the game was finding a bunch of connections, never being able to put the full picture together, and then slogging through hints and the poor search functionality the game provides. The game is really hampered by its poor UX, and even when I did solve a case or make a major breakthrough, it never felt satisfying. I appear to be in the minority here, but the most important part of the game never clicked with me, and so I can’t really recommend it to anyone. I will be “playing” the game for two more hours to get an achievement, but my true playtime is two hours less.

Solid investigate 'em up in the vein of The Roottrees Are Dead and the Golden Idol games. The UI is a bit clunky and the 'Sonitron' mechanic introduced halfway through the game is a bit contrived, but the story and puzzles are good and you get to hunt Nazis, which is always nice.

It's... fine. It's not really a thumbs down, but it's not a thumbs up either. The beginning is fun and I like the art style, but as a lot of other reviews have pointed out, after the 4th? case the leaps in logic essentially make the cases guesswork over detective work. Furthermore, the listening into hotel rooms mechanic? Completely unnecessary. I've never seen a more shoe-horned in mechanic, add it at the beginning or don't add it.

i don't agree with many negative reviews regarding sonitron. Its logic is consistent and rather simple, it's a referenece to Type Help/Incident at galley house, and it's playing very minor role in the whole game, only in one case it is used extensively. The game itself is masterpeice of deduction games, second only to obra dinn, mainly for aestethic reasons. The difficulty is just the right amount. And if you use hint system, the hints will show exactly where clues for each blank can be found, so it's non nonsensical.

Loved this game. Puzzle games are my favorite. This game is challenging enough to frustrate but offers hints for some of the more difficult connections. Similar to Roottrees but more investigative avenues. Also, any Nazi-hunting game will be a banger. Eff Nazis.
