The Sun Shines Over Us is an engaging visual novel that tackles important themes like mental health, bullying, and trauma while remaining wholesome and relatable. The game’s art style beautifully captures Indonesian high school life, adding authenticity to the narrative. Each character feels unique, with natural dialogue and memorable moments. The soundtrack enhances the emotional depth, making every decision in Mentari’s journey feel impactful. With its stunning visuals, calming music, and meaningful choices, this game offers an immersive experience that’s hard to put down. Highly recommended for those looking for a heartwarming and meaningful story. 10/10!

I bought this game after finding out that the developer is from Indonesia and seeing the good reviews it’s been getting. I’m always curious about games from Indonesian developers, so of course I didn’t want to miss this one. This is a decent visual novel with a positive message about mental health issues. As a pure visual novel, it’s fairly standard—there are no additional gameplay mechanics for variety. The only variation comes from its branching storylines with different endings, as you’d expect from the genre. Unfortunately, these alternate scenarios aren’t very easy to access, so it takes quite a bit of time and dedication to unlock them all. If the process were more streamlined, I think players would be more motivated to explore every possible outcome. Visually, it’s quite simple but still effective in conveying the story. I played it in Indonesian, as I always do with games from local developers, and the script is generally good, though there are a few typos here and there. The portrayal of mental health issues is extremely conservative—almost like reading from a school textbook. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it makes the message clear and easy to understand, b…

It's fairly common for mental health to take center stage in video games today, but The Sun Shines Over Us takes a realistic and empathy-driven approach that grabs my attention. Right from the first chapter, the game doesn’t shy away from showing you the realities of Mentari’s experience, from her intrusive thoughts to the sudden panic attacks. But this is only the first step in her healing journey, which we follow throughout the rest of the game. The Sun Shines Over Us features 15 main chapters, 1 bonus chapter, and over 100,000 words, allowing us to experience Mentari’s healing journey in its full breadth. Unlike your typical visual novel, this story focuses on empowering the player’s own healing journey, and there are no bad endings out of the six endings in the game. The game even goes the extra mile to explain the significance of certain decisions or milestones in her progress, holding our hand as it walks us through her journey as well as our own. Tech-wise, the game is a little rough around the edges and I would recommend saving frequently, as the game doesn't have any auto-save points or chapter select. But if you're looking for a heartwarming visual novel experience, hav…

Might be one of the best visual novels I played for this year. Never know how great the game is till I played it myself and I immediately love it. I'm going to be honest. When I first played the demo, I wasn't impressed and found the game to be so so. This changed after I played the full game when I started to be more "open minded" and I started to like and appreciate it more. The game has 16 chapters and in my opinion, each chapter is not very long or short either. Perfect to keep you interested in knowing what's going to happen next and be immersed in the story without making you lose interest. Love the art style. music, animation and what makes me connect to the main character and be immersed in the story was the fact I could relate to the main character feeling left out and being called "Weird" by others for her mental illness
