About The Tales of Bayun

The Tales of Bayun is a narrative adventure game with RPG elements in a grim Eastern European and Slavic fantasy setting. A unique world based on fairy tales and legends. Fascinating stories with unexpected plot twists. Authentic characters with their own secrets and motivation. Tough moral choices with unpredictable consequences. Will you overcome all the twists of fate or go unsung with a knife in your back? Let’s figure this out!

The Storona is a challenging place for a reason. Characters from myths and tales live side by side with ordinary people. Earnestness and kindness rub shoulders with betrayal and devilry. Someone has a stroke of luck and in the shake of a hand turns into a noble person. Another one got kicked in the teeth and thrown to the wolves. Sorrow and happiness, wealth and poverty, good and evil — everything is bound so tightly, that those bonds can’t be broken. But don’t be afraid. It’s easy to change someone’s fortune. Much harder to sort oneself out. Those who search for answers should visit Bayun the Cat. But knowledge comes at a price. Bayun might even chuck you down in a single bite if something goes wrong… Beware!

I bought it because of Kuplinov's stream. The game turned out to be worse than expected. The further the game progressed, the less content it became, and it was never completed, apparently due to poor sales.

Doomed if you do, doomed if you don't. Gets old pretty quick.

Disappointed. The game consists of two extremely short and event-poor stories, which you switch in a main menu. As a visual novel, it is bad by a lack of meaningful choices and a primitive, overly schematic stats system. At the same time, it lacks a basic visual novel feature—the ability to skip already read dialogue branches. The character design is also disappointing: the male characters feel uniform, while the female characters are exaggeratedly sexualized—turning Slavic folk enteties like the Maiden of the Copper Mountain and Baba Yaga into something resembling Dubai escorts. It comes across as tasteless; even AI could have generated something more interesting.

The stories were neat, the characters were rad (hellooooo, nurse Yaga), and it was fun to play...the first few times. I would've like more variety of stories to get all the cheevos; with having to repeat the two, I was ready to sacrifice everyone to the fae to just get it over with. Then I checked the forums and saw the awful truth: by all indications, it's been abandoned by the devs with some cheevo-blocking bugs left unaddressed. My OCD is left weeping powerlessly. I will probably never be able to 100% this game. BUT, the remaining cheevos to get me there, assuming the bugs were fixed, involve doing the alcoholic arsehole run with Zhdan, which I didn't really want to do anyway, so that's a bonus. And the difference between cheevos earned and unavailable/jerkface cheevos is an even number, so that's some consolation. Two snaggleteeth up, would throttle Slimeweed or whatever his name was again (did, in fact, throttle him multiple times, so you'd think I'd remember his name...).
