This game under-sells the entertainment value of beating a monster to death with your own grave marker. There's a simple joy in whomping your way up the food chain, beating on smaller monsters so you can use them as weapons to weaken bigger monsters that are wielded against the biggest monsters. This game has an RPG Maker aesthetic, which had me expecting more of a traditional JRPG combat experience. However, the gameplay is more like Torneko: The Last Hope or Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon. Combat happens in the world as you explore it — you get a turn to move/attack, and then the monsters have a turn to move/attack. It'd be nice if you could zoom out to get a sense of which monsters were lurking just outside your line of sight, but overall this was a fun, quick dungeon-crawling adventure.
I am not really a JRPG gamer but this one made it into my favourites. Despite the simple mechanics and small world size, the main game has a very impressive amount of content - and I have not even attempted one of the roguelike dungeons at the time of this review! The running joke never gets tiring - the world is truly my weapon! ヾ(๑╹◡╹)ノ▬▬█

Although the novelty of beating a goblin to death with an entire building, or selling an elderly man at your shop table might wear off eventually, there's just so much to pick up and play with that it was hard to get bored. The play time is just about right for the price, about a dollar an hour. I could have probably drawn a couple more hours out as well, but without achievements, completing the story feels like enough to wrap things up. I will say, however, that the lack of achievements does sour what could have otherwise been a more fulfilling experience. I don't feel like there's any real drive or reason to go exploring once you get the legendary plot sword, which is a shame considering the sheer volume of items to discover. Selling $1M of merchandise, discovering all items, exploring the roguelike dungeon, even entering the dark tower all left a sense of, "Why bother?" once the story had been finished. Overall, the game's enjoyable. Worth checking out if you can see past the generic visuals of…
