wtf are these controls1 found this helpful
In awe that I spent so long unfamiliar with these games. An unraveling of religious cults based on pagan trickster figures, a sect focusing on industrial progress following the tenets of a godlike figure called the builder, a clandestine group of assassins that control the city and its elite from the shadows, piecing together parts from this bible that every mission opens w/ surreal excerpts from; steampunk gothic architecture with an incredible, industrial soundtrack. And mechanically it is perfect, simulating all of your tool and leading to such incredibly emergent gameplay. Very excited to check out the rest of the looking glass games :)1 found this helpful
For the very first game to feature Stealth in a First-Person perspective, it's a understatement how much of it holds up so, SO well despite it's age. (Played with Roguepatcher and a faux EAX Soundcard) Thief: The Dark Project, or Thief: Gold is a First-Person Stealth game developed by Looking Glass Studios back in 1998/99. It follows Garrett who to some is a simple taffer thief but to the few, a masterclass example of stealth and thievery. As he does odd thieving jobs around the city and eventually catching the eye of a certain upper class figure who wishes to use his skills for a particularly big project. The game, despite being literally THE FIRST of it's kind, manages to still hold up decently well. Despite it's aged but charming early 3D aesthetic and general clunkiness with the controls. Gameplay of Thief is split across 15 different missions. each one having a list of objectives that Garrett needs to complete in any which order. Who's amount also depend on the mission, as well as the difficulty. Where the harder difficulties alter and/or add more objectives to keep track of, rather than just only spawning in more enemies or making them hit harder. These are also not short l…
I'd give garrett my organs to sell so he can get some money off me Every second I am not on this game I feel unworthy
I think there's several faults in Thief Gold, both introduced in Gold as well as present in the original TDP, that you absolutely can notice, but its outweighed by how sheerly impressive this was for its time. MOST* of the levels still hold up great even if they're not the greatest in the series, and it's just a really... admirable? game to me. I think ultimately 2 would later do most of the things Gold did better, but that doesnt mean this isnt worth a go. In fact I reckon appreciating 2 to its fullest capacity almost requires a playthrough of this, which by no means is a bad time either to be clear.
Incredible game! I love it! One of the best videogame purchases I've had in a good while in my collection! The sound design in this is jawdropping, love the soundcard usage and EAX effects. The meticulous music and sound is so rich in general, in consequence, the overall atmosphere that it enforces on the game gives its levels an haunting, almost horrorish feeling that leaves me shivering from time to time. Especially from how old this game is, having that affect me still is honestly impecable and just shows blatantly the gorgeous quality of this videogame, it's aged like fine wine. The graphics are incredible too and, like all the aspects within its gameplay and game, just lift the atmosphere and drive constant mistery and curiosity. The way the levels are design just helps it even more - I love the architecture in the town segments, they're really intriguing and very cool looking, and the mixture between sci-fi steampunk and medieval architecture is very fun to look at, especially with how the level geometry and texture work is worked. I'm currently addicted to this game, and it's really easy fall in that addiction. I love picking this game up from time to time, blows off a …
