About TonoTone

TonoTone is designed to be an easy to understand, reasonable first approach to modular synthesis while still bringing new experiences for seasoned composers. This cockpit style synthesizer offers full wrap-around interaction that makes for an immersive music composition experience. This synthesizer is also designed to provide the relevant frequencies to use for different scales, allowing for intricate theorized melodies or freeflow jam sessions!

Features

 • Generators - Choose from 12 different waveforms and see how your modulations affect the wave shape in real time.
 • Envelopes - Envelopes are shaped via four points of control to allow for easy adjustment and customization.
 • Sequencers - The GatorGroover is an 8 step sequencer that, when paired together, allows for polyrhythms. The bottom row of teeth controls how many beats are in a measure (or sequence) while the top row of teeth toggles each step on/off.
 • Patch Matrix - Presented as the Ice Cream Parlor section of TonoTone, ice cream cones store sequencer data and can be plugged into an array of channels. Sequencers can be wired into these channels via the tubs of ice cream to play a composed string of sequences. Play with different channels and cone variations to explore new patterns and harmonies with your own melodies.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can watch my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/MV2jDeU2hpg I'll be honest, after an hour of playing with this app, I think I've barely just touched the surface of what it can do. Since I'm struggling to learn the app, I have decided to abstain from giving a rating. Consider this a neutral recommendation due to not fully understanding all that the app can do. However, I will criticize the app because I do think it needs better onboarding. When I first started up, I had no idea what to do. The help screen information wasn't very helpful. This app needs a tutorial stat or videos covering all the things you can do with the app. I will admit though that I'm not the most experienced person with synthesizers. Lastly, I will note that I did finally make some music with help from the dev on the Steam community forums. So it's nice that we have such a responsive dev. Also, keep in mind, this app is a room-scale app. No artificial locomotion or turning. You will need a bit more than standing room to play. Rate ?/10.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. If you enjoy…

I like the concept. But I was unable to get any sound going after seeing the help section consist of two sentances. A fun tutorial would motivate users to learn by showing them the cool sounds and tracks they could create using the medium. This lacks any such thing. I even tried to cheat and watch the store page video to see how to start and I still couldnt get any sound to happen. maybe I'm just dumb
