"Touhou : Shooting Star | 東方流星譚" is a bit of copyright infringement as the developer used ZUN's copyrighted Touhou IP to make a paid, commercial, for profit product. While ZUN permits his IP to be used for free, not-for-profit fan projects, the developer here wilfully ignored that and tried to get YOUR money for ZUN's intellectual property. In some parts of the world this kind of copyright infringmeent is a criminal offense. What do you do in the game? Well it's a badly made "flight sim" using characters stolen from someone else's intellectual property franchise. IP theft is never okay. There's no English translation for the game, but that's okay. The language of bad games is universal. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $19 USD for this. Yes, the developer wanted NINTEEN US DOLLARS of YOUR money for ZUN's intellect…

Very fun 3D shoot-em-up. Flying around Gensokyo and gunning down bosses feels satisfying, and dodging spellcards has the signature Touhou mixture of challenge and spectacle. I was especially impressed with the difficulty tuning - fights feel fair, and there are no overpowered weapons that trivialize them either. This is a student project however, so it's a bit rough around the edges. There are a couple of annoying bugs and oversights, such as being able to clip into the SDM's roof and bosses that move around being very difficult to hit. The interface is translated well enough, but the story translation is incomprehensible and unfinished, so unless you know Japanese you won't be able to understand anyone. There are also several weapons (most of the ones with spread) that are unusably bad, so think carefully about what weapons you buy and upgrade. However, these flaws don't harm the game much. It's free, so it's 100% worth checking out if you're looking for 3D Touhou game with around 4-8 hours of good content.
