This game impressed me so much—in the best possible way—that I can't help but think the development of FlatOut 3 and FlatOut 4 should have been entrusted to this team; *Trail Out* really sucked me into its gameplay. To the developers who made this game: you guys are awesome.2 found this helpful
Trail Out is a great game. It's filled to the brim with references to other games/movies, which in my case adds to the experience. I find it amazing how the game was made by a small team, but they still have big and well-designed maps, the ability to add your own music to the game, tons of game modes, a great destruction physics engine paired with decent driving physics. I especially love that the game gives you the ability to destroy nearly everything in your path. Ever since I was little I was curious how far the destruction physics can be taken into games, however since the 8th console generation, destruction physics have become less relevant (with the exception of JC3, JC4, BeamNG and Teardown). I played the demo and initially didn't like the game, not because of the gameplay, but because of its personality, or better said, lack of personality. In the demo it wasn't evident to me that the game is meant to be a spiritual remake of FlatOut2 with a lot of references to online media, I thought it was just copying ideas. Even though I really enjoyed the game because I caught most of the references, I do think it's still a fun game if you were to remove those. The driving …1 found this helpful
I want to like to this game but I can't. I really bought this game because of the advertisement of a SPLIT/Second game mode... but once you start the game it throws you into a career mode that's corny and not needed. The corny career is the least of my worries, you have to deal with the janky car physics when turning. All the cars want to drift rather than actually turn. I don't understand why they took a page out of Mario Kart and Need for Speed on that one. Single player racing game? Bold move. I'm sorry I can careless about our Russian driver, give us a good racing game to play with our friends. This game could have easily been a great game with custom multiplayer tracks and such. The developers missed out. You could have at least added in daily or weekly tracks like TrackMania so players can compete with each other on a leaderboard to see who's the fast in specific game modes... Nope, not even that was added in.
Very good FlatOut style crasher racer. There are some issues but as complete package, game is very fun to play. Good: Classic FlatOut gameplay is here and it's better than ever. While basic premise is same (you have AI competitors that you face either in classic circuit races, demolition derby like arenas or stunts), there are some few additions like rally stages, boss battles on sprint A to B tracks, modes where you are police officer assigned to "catch" opponents, bike races or "Dash" mode that's just like Blur form Bizarre Creations. There is also third-person shooter mode where you fight zombie invasion and fighting zombie versions of main campaign opponents. There are lot of different cars, so there is something for everyone. Tracks are also very nicely designed and some of them can change layout based on destruction of key components across the map. Meh: Some game mods aren't to my liking. Especially Dash and zombie fighting mode. They are veeeery meh. Dash is unfair, while controls and bosses in zombie mode are very bad. Also story and voice acting are ultra, ultra bad :D You need to experience it to believe it. Bad: Optimization. Optimization is all over the place.…
For a game that emphasizes crashing, the controls and physics are incredibly janky. Also the game is ridden with countless bugs.
While there's fun to be had, and I know it was made by a small team, I have a few problems with it. * The physics are inconsistent and unpredictable. Cars feel very light, and it's quite easy to roll your vehicle. * Early in the game, cash rewards from Career races are very small, so you'll likely have to grind for fans and money in other game modes to unlock and buy better cars capable of beating the AI. * Performance issues occur on larger tracks with more elaborate props, which is somewhat expected from a UE5 game. * Be prepared to restart races multiple times, as it's quite difficult to catch up after an accident. * Even if you purchase the DLCs, you'll still have to unlock and buy the DLC cars using in-game currency. Get the game when it's on a deep sale. You'll probably get a few laughs out of it, even if some of its frustrations keep it from being a game you'll come back to often.
