About Type or Die

Your master has fallen on the battlefield. You are his steed, and you take up the sword in his place. Advance through a typing game inspired by board games and roguelites, square by square, rolling dice each turn. Encounter monsters, chests, shops, events, and tactical choices in a world drawn like a living Gothic manuscript.Your keyboard is your primary weapon. Type the words displayed on the screen to attack, break through defenses, or dodge enemy strikes. The faster and more precise you are, the more damage you inflict. Bosses, elites, and medieval creatures will put your reflexes to the test.Every victory, every chest, and every event grants you a card: permanent bonuses, curses, unique effects, or heroic abilities. Combine them to create devastating or utterly chaotic builds. In this roguelite, your deck defines your destiny.

There's a lot wrong, here. First off is the TRULY BAFFLING amount of generative AI. Let me do a little TLDR. Before the game launched, the dev had a discussion area for the use of AI, and claimed that he ONLY used it for the icons (even if you only have one eye and half a brain, you can tell that most of the art, including essentially all of the UI and containers, is AI generated). So of course people were mentioning this repeatedly in the discussion thread, there were 40+ comments. The day that the game came out, the entire thread disappeared. Now if you ask ANY questions on the discussion page about AI, they are deleted within an hour. Also deleted are the comments regarding the fact that when you quit the original demo, your browser force-opened a Google Form asking for feedback- which was really invasive and made me question if there was any malware in the game. So the dev claimed that only the icons were AI generated, and is now going on a crusade to try to remove any evidence of the prior discussions or critiques. Well, sucks that you can't turn off reviews. Here are other reasons why you don't want to buy or play this game: -It's $13. That's crazy for a game of this le…

The Dev is an AI Scam Artist lying through their teeth about how much AI is used in their game AND how much of an "enthusiast" of AI they are. The dev is putting in concerted INTENTIONAL EFFORT to HIDE THEIR LIES. The Dev made a forum post to discuss AI usage, then when commenters called the dev out on their lies, the dev DELETED the whole discussion, and has now been CONSISTENTLY DELETING ANY DISCUSSIONS related to AI within hours of posting. (I have tested this and you can too!) As of writing, the dev has claimed: "I want to clarify right away that I am not an AI enthusiast, though I understand that this topic can be sensitive for some. Type Or Die uses AI for card icons and sprite animations. All other aspects of the game (design, programming, voice acting, music, interface, and the majority of the artwork) were created manually. If the game achieves a certain level of success after its release, I will hire a specialist artist to handle all of that." That's actually updated from claiming "just the icon art is AI", and that they WILL "hire an artist before the game's release to replace the icon art". (Which... why wouldn't you just have the same hypothetical artist who made…

It's okay when it works but more often than not, at least on hard mode, it glitches out and you can't do anything except listen to the galloping noise of the guy moving on the map.

I really like the game, great concept. However, there is a bug when the game tells me to choose a card after rolling the dice when I don't have any. There is nothing else to do than close the game. Happened with two games with 200+ kills. Edit: Tried playing a little bit more, but I always end up with the bug I described earlier, so I am not going to play until this bug gets fixed. Other opinions - wizard doesn't really give you special cards. I give him two cards and get just a normal type of card. After giving him two cards, I'd expect some kind of boosted card. - i don't know how the randomness works in the game because in some games i never get any dice card, so I roll with one dice throughout the game and I am out of cards all the time. So the game is seemingly random but in a weird way - I would appreciate to see my active boosts because it's hard to keep track of everything you applied - I think the fairy and the witch shouldn't have 2 choices out of 3, that are the same (for example, I meet a witch and first option is "You only have one HP" but the second option is exactly the same). - The Market prices don't make sense, I always fear meeting a market because it's gonn…

I'm having a good time with this game. The mix of typing gameplay, roguelite progression, and board game mechanics works surprisingly well, and the Gothic manuscript aesthetic gives it a lot of personality. While I'm not particularly enthusiastic about generative AI in games, I appreciate the developer's transparency about its use and his commitment to replacing the AI-made icons with hand-crafted ones after release. That honesty goes a long way, and the overall presentation and gameplay clearly reflect a lot of care, craftsmanship, and effort. The typing feels responsive and satisfying, and I enjoyed experimenting with different card combinations and builds. It's a creative and refreshing take on the genre. If you enjoy typing games, this is definitely worth a try.
