About Unto Deepest Depths

Unto Deepest Depths is a turn-based strategy game where all units must move and attack every turn. Build your party, upgrade your units, and lead them into the unknown to vanquish the horrors below in this punishing roguelite where any move could be your last.
Challenging turn-based combat with a twist
Battle through tactical turn-based combat where death is always just around the corner, made more challenging due to a simple rule: Every turn, units must move and attack. No waiting for enemies to come to you, and be mindful of your more destructive units - they may take down a few allies if you're not careful.
Battle powerful, dark foes
Venture across the land and into the depths below to fight off corrupt, menacing creatures not of this world. Powerful bosses, life leeching enemies, and more await you in the depths.
Build your party
Gain XP through battles and events and spend it to hire, promote, and upgrade units as you see fit to build a powerful party.
Features
  • Build and grow your party with a variety of unit types and specialties. Elite and specialized units can be unlocked by promoting units with the XP earned from battle.
  • Grow your units with powerful upgrades, but choose wisely as not everyone can specialize in everything.
  • Battle through procedurally generated conflicts set across five unique biomes as you venture further into the depths below.
  • Face powerful bosses and elite enemies along your journey.
  • Choose your path and respond to unexpected challenges and events as you venture forth.
  • Unlock additional difficulty levels, powerful upgrades, and unique starting parties as you play the game.

It's amazing how such a simple mechanic can make for such great design! Having lots of fun with the game. It is hard enough to really make you think, and the fact that losing makes you start from scratch gives every move you make a lot of weight. One thing that I'd like would be to auto attack, because sometimes, even if an attack would do nothing, I still have to manually use it, making me hit my own character (my intention being to just select the character). I see, however, that this is necessary for the undo button to work, because if the character auto-attacked, you wouldn't be able to undo. Thanks a lot for this neat game! Can't wait to play it more!

Very fun strategy game for people that like a simple set of rules leading to emergent complexity. Easy to get in to, old school graphical vibe, and a decent amount of roguelike elements that make different approaches viable.

Super fun "one screen floor" combat with a twist: Each turn you must move and attack with all your units while minding friendly fire and your foes. Unit diversity and progression allow different unit uses and strategies. Impacting unlocks and procedural levels offer a good amount of play time.

Picked this up after finding it through the YouTube devlogs and spending some time with the demo. This game is for the puzzle lovers. It executes on the core idea very well, a unique and interesting concept but maybe a little too deterministic for me. Sokoban and Sudoku enjoyers would probably have a good time with this. It's quite short but challenging, it's easy to lose a run if you're not thinking five steps ahead. Losing a critical member of the team can leave you knowing the rest of your team will be dead in a few turns with nothing you can do about it. I found myself wishing I had some consumables or other get-out-of-jail free cards to play when I knew I was in a doomed situation. Some other thoughts in no particular order: - Excellent tutorial, not too long and not too short. - Nice visual and SFX polish - Very little variety between runs especially in the early game. Maybe consumables or similar would help here to vary each run, but more RNG might be against the spirit of the game. - Would be good to have more visual feedback when a unit is in attack mode (maybe a different cursor?). As a new player I've killed my allies too many times thinking I was selecting them…

A unique blend of genres, even feeling a bit chess-like with some units. Fun enough that I got sucked into the 'just one more match' loop. I will say that difficulty can vary pretty widely in a single run, and that even when steamrolling later in the game you may find yourself in a bad situation with certain maps and enemy combinations. Occasionally frustrating, but it maintained tension so I never felt like I could just sit on XP. Speaking of which, I do feel like the upgrades could use some rebalancing. As it stands some are essential and others are only rarely useful, even with the price differences they aren't cheap enough to tempt me and feel more like a lesson in what not to do. Nitpicks aside I think it's a really solid little game that I'll come back to from time to time to see if I can ever get past depth 2.
