Warning: Asset Flip!
Village is an asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", STuNT, took the Horror Engine game assets from the real developers, TansuErgine, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work. Some of the other assets are blatantly ripped off too, like the Train Yard assets that you start out in. Comically the developer has a credits page in the game and he just credits himself as the 3D modeler... what a joke. The products that result from asset flips aren't "real" games. They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Horror Engine" is just a complete asset pack game kit for making Unreal first person horror adventures, combined with a bunch of stock assets stolen from various places, and doesn't have any merit as a p…4 found this helpful
This game is a prime example of how poor execution can ruin even a modest idea. From the very first minutes, you encounter terrible optimization (the GPU heats up as if it’s running a AAA game, despite graphics on par with a mobile project), a complete lack of navigation (figuring out where to go is a mystery), and primitive gameplay with no clear objectives. The interface, mechanics, and even the discoveries (like notes and a flashlight) are copied from other indie horror games without any originality. The map is huge but empty—just fog and invisible walls that can get you stuck and make you lose progress (there’s no autosave). Verdict: Even at a low price, the game isn’t worth your time. If you want a real horror quest, look for alternatives. 2/10, and that’s just for effort. "You walk around, confused and frustrated—then close it forever."1 found this helpful
one of the devs more atmospheric games but it fails to explain where to go and how to get their. https://youtu.be/zHAlKYRFo8A?si=oW-oHmlOiNblvcFI
DON'T BUY. Empty asset map, no clear clues what to do, stutters every few seconds
Village, developed and published by STuNT, is a quiet and atmospheric first-person horror experience that leans heavily on mood, exploration, and environmental storytelling. Rather than relying on jump scares or fast-paced encounters, the game immerses you in the unsettling stillness of an abandoned rural settlement, where a young boy arrives to visit his grandmother only to discover that the village has fallen eerily silent. What begins as an innocent visit quickly turns into a solitary investigation, and the absence of people becomes the source of an ever-growing sense of dread. Village is not a game that rushes you; instead, it draws tension from its quiet spaces, its lingering shadows, and the feeling that you are always just a step behind whatever tragedy unfolded there. The narrative unfolds through exploration rather than direct exposition. As you wander through deserted houses, decaying factories, and overgrown pathways, you uncover newspaper scraps, lost belongings, and clues scattered across rooms and hallways. These fragments gradually reveal the disappearance of the townsfolk, suggesting a tragic and mysterious chain of events. The choice to present the story through f…
I find myself really bored playing this game is literally the same empty houses and same buildings all the way through. The walking speed is horrendously slow. I do love the factory use your body to open doors. The snow is really pretty but that is the only thing I’d say is nice. The voice overs are done by text to speech and takes you out of the immersion but then again I don’t think English is their first language. There is also no saving in the game so you have to do it in one sitting. ✔ Graphics (as shown) ✗ Story and character development ✗ Replay Value ✔ Background music
