About Viola: The Heroine's Melody
After failing at violin practice for the hundredth time, Viola gets trapped inside her instrument's fantastical world. She's joined by a set of strange, colorful friends, as she journeys through the lands of magic, monsters and music... Searching for her way back home.
Viola: The Heroine's Melody pulls inspiration from many classic JRPGs. Lufia, the Mario & Luigi series, Final Fantasy, and even modern indie takes on the genre such as Undertale and Lisa. Turn-based battles, a ton of recruitable characters, and a personal story to sink your teeth into: Viola has all of this and more. However, Viola is not a passive RPG. Attacks require the player to time their button taps, and to unleash spells you'll have to follow a series of rhythm game-esque inputs.
On top of being an RPG, Viola: The Heroine's Melody is a side-scrolling platformer! With wall jumps and triple jumps, springs and cannons, you can explore each level and uncover every little secret. Find more potions, or gems to equip and customize each character's stats! And don't worry about random encounters: each monster is visible in the level. Don't feel like fighting? Just jump around and find another path!
Music is key to Viola. Every character in your party has their own instrument, and they'll eagerly play along with the songs you learn along your journey. All the songs have their own magical effect, like summoning a bird, creating a magical campfire, unlocking secret pathways... If you've ever played a Zelda game, you'll feel right at home.

The gameplay is nice, but while the best songs are incredibly short, the ost is okay-ish. I liked the characters and the story as well. But I cannot recommend the game. Stay away from it because it has, not only an annoying bug that forced you to press "comfirm" multiple times to register entering into a stage (otherwise the screen remains black) it also has a bug flat out locking you from beating the game because the game requires you to recruit all characters to beat the game and one is bugged where she joins the party, but she vanishes. You cannot try to repeat the circumstances to unlock her, so you're screwed and forced to restart at a CHANCE that the game won't bug again when unlocking her. Until the devs fix this (if they still care), stay away from the game that can easily become unfinishable.7 found this helpful
Viola: The Heroine’s Melody is a simple story about Viola exploring a fantastical world, meeting new friends, defeating foes, and growing up, but when our real-life pandemic casts a lingering air of dread and gloom over everything, spending time with a game like this is a relaxing, calming escape. No, but I'm actually mad that more of y'all aren't giving this game its roses. Give this game her TENS! The story is S O beautiful and such a great meditation on loving oneself, finding community, moving through grief, and falling in love with artistic expression. I was nervous because I heard there was a game-ending bug, but as long as you get Emerald after they become available (which is fairly early), you should be good. Just like don't wait till the end to get them, I don't even know why people were doing that to begin with lmao. Sure, this game doesn't have a million-dollar budget. Sure, we've seen stories of friendship before. But E Y E don't care! This story does it better, period. This game will leave you with misty eyes and lungs made lighter from laughing at the hilarious dialogue. It's a vibe, it's great, play this game now, please.
Why the ♥♥♥♥ is her name Viola when she plays Violin???
Cute and short input RPG (think Paper Mario) about a girl having a coming of age adventure in a magical world. Handles some difficult subject matter pretty well (grief and such) with a varied cast, and manages to be a lot of fun in its platforming segments and combat system. It is buggy at odd moments, due to the game being made almost entirely by one person, but I think it succeeds in just about all its ambitions and the end result feels unique and touching. It has a lot of personality and a lovely sense of humor, highly recommend.
This is a light Turn based RPG game about a girl dealing with loss and her journey dealing with the grief Along the way she meets a whole bunch of diverse characters each with their own story and abilities. Not a very difficult game and a decent amount of content to keep you busy for a couple hours
