VonGarland Castle : Beyond Blood

I really really would like to recommend this game but at the moment it is a bit hit and miss. Its got a lot of nods to the head to the classic horror games, with the menu system, themes, puzzles, enemies and bosses. Its enjoyable but... It has a lot of little things that will make you wish it could have been done better. Things like the menu controls are D-pad only and you have to click every movement on the screen between the tabs and the 29th item in storage from the top every time. Then there is the mission, sure the game wants you to explore, but with the enemies respawning all the time you will need a lot of ammo or melee them. Sure you can by ammo and upgrade your guns but health items are what you find on the map and once you used it, that is it. Even the crafting herbs are a bit off as you don't know what you get until you craft it and must remember the results yourself even if you come back to the game a week or longer of absence. I got to the point where I'm supposed to go to some where but I need items and so far I have no idea how to get there between all the locked doors and respawning enemies. Despite theres some bugs that needs to be fixed, this Castlevania & Resident Evil inspirational mash up has been made to perfection.

game stutters and freezes after a few minutes of playing but that seems to be a recent development otherwise its vibe and slightly clunky controls remind me of resident evil one and the slightly anime style character art reminds me of dawn of sorrow.

2D survival horror side-scroller game with stylized character of western sensbilities (aka not anime) have been on my mind as I'm trying to help my team at work find their footing in edgier genres, themes and styles that are far outside their comfort zone. So my ears perked up when I discovered VonGarland Castle: Beyond Blood! It's a cool game. It is like a 2D Resident Evil 1 combined with elements from Metal Gear Solid put through a North American cartoon and comic book filter. Its a vibe. What I liked the most about the game is how cohesive and ballsy the art direction is. The style doesnt have global appeal but it certainly is cool and uniqe. The sad thing is that the game look better in screenshots than it does in motion. The characters suffers from clunky 'paper puppet' animation, most likely made in Spine. If the studio had found a way to make the animation more exciting and dynamic it could have helped the game to really turn heads. sorry to say i been wanting to play this but if your on pc know the controls which appear to be way easyer on pc are not there ment for controller only if u are planning to play on mouse and keyboard either dont or expect the worst controls experience u will ever see i cant handle it but i do love the idea of the game i just wish they made the controls usable for a normal gamer

Looked interesting but I'm pretty sure this is just A.I. slop. Voice acting is mechanical animations are terrible art is bad. Skip it save the money.
