A collection of the 3 GBA Castlevanias as well as Dracula X for the SNES. An interesting collection particularly because the first two GBA titles are so different despite both being metroidvanias. Here's my thoughts: Circle of the Moon: The most difficult of the metroidvania style Castlevanias due to some harrowing save point placement, a spiteful vertical platforming section, a couple of challenging bosses and its tricky movement: You walk very slow, and so are compelled to sprint everywhere which is done by double tapping the dpad. This gets old, even for a fighting game player; a genre where double tapping to run is a common mechanic. Also, when you use your primary weapon, the whip, the animation lingers for a bit, disabling any further button presses for a moment which can really throw you off, and precludes actions like hitting an enemy, and then jumping free from danger. Despite these flaws, it's a really fun game thanks to an excellent castle layout, fun bosses and a cool ability system, which has you collecting cards from various enemies and combining them for different effects. The best part of the collection is "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" Then "Castlevania: Circle of the Moon", The most difficult of them all is "Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance" And the last one, "Castlevania: Dracula X", is a complete failure; it doesn't even have a map, and the gameplay is terrible. I wish "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" was on Steam.1 found this helpful

This is GBA era metroidvania at it's GBAest, you either know what it is and want it or you don't know what it is and probably still want it. Except CotM, that is still pretty much what "1st generation GBA release" is at it's pure essence.
Castlevania Advance Collection contains 4 games Dracula X is often compared as a demake of Rondo of Blood but is quite good. Nice music bosses platforming classic castlevania at it’s core not the best but not bad 7/10 (remember to have an axe for Dracula) Circle of the Moon is first metroidvania after SoTN and it’s great. Story exists, Map layout is nice secret rooms are somewhat hidden but there is one problem rooms are HUGE for no reason. Main mechanic in the game are DSS cards which you combine to have different effects and that is a brilliant system but they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up with one thing. Drop rates are abysmal less than 2% on average and they only drop from specific enemies. If that doesn’t bother you great. Music is fantastic for a GBA game also Nathan movement is really stiff. Bosses are nice and there is a bit of twist to Hugh (btw the game is considered non canon). 8/10 Harmony of Dissonance have a better story that is really interesting with a big twist. Different endings that change and voice acting. I don’t really know who thought that but it’s nice Juste and others have sometimes a voice line but in Japanese?
