Base Game: Dungeon Keeper 2 clone turned wannabe RTS - too short, uninspired campaign 20h/40h achievs - new units poorly introduced, strengths/weaknesses/synergies - same with spells, techs - rushed game/play: objective/chokepoint control instead of freeplay - awful achievements, just time checks to force continues mission replay - completing speed challenges breaks triggers/dialogues, i.e. dead lords will do their intended speeches, weird design choice to point out the game's flaws on purpose... Changes/"Upgrades" from DK2 - gated mana = more impactful, but removed/punished excessive territory expansion - 5x5 rooms persist - awfully restrictive and boring since forced optimally, despite adding corner-building, don't dare making 7x7 etc, buff of walls too powerful except again only half the rooms follow their own system bruh - like DK2, prior best units are unusuable now, fairies gone, vampires too annoying to get and keep - human units arent better but sacrifice was butchered, making a handful mid-tier untis costs 10-50 base units which equals 1h game time per gate (2h if you train them), strongest tho Wizard > Vanguard > Bard -lack of maps with human gateway and lack of upgrad…

Pretty close approach to old Dungeon Keeper players. As other have reviewed, missions are "time oriented" and the game pushes you to kind of rush each level to avoid a steep increase on difficulty as time passes by. Nonetheless, enjoyable and fun, keeping most of the old DK dark humor.

I genuinely have played this game since pretty much just after it released, and only now writing a review? I remember every update, I have played so many RTS games and there is nothing like WFTO. While I have a few issues with the game and it is most likely not for everyone. It is a real shame how underrated this game. I also think the artstyle is unique and fits this game very well. However, I do still think this game is worth checking out for any fan of RTS or management games. I very much recommend this game. Story/Lore - 8/10 - Very good, fits very well and entertaining enough. Gameplay - 9/10 - Amazingly fun, good combo of both management and RTS, Artstyle - 8/10 - Unique, grungy and sharp. Example: Dungeon Core design is really nice looking and fits the character. Singleplayer - 9.5/10 - Campaigns are brilliant, every level is extremely fun and mostly unique and the base campaign works as such a good tutorial introducing elements. Perfect game for all Dungeon keeper fans

Great game – but the relentless commentary from the narrator I find VERY intrusive and annoying. Particularly in the campaign – there is way to much detail and frequency of dialogue describing things/events that is very intrusive – particularly when it keeps moving my camera across the map. I just want to sit and finish what I’m doing for 30 seconds without him babbling – half the time I ignore/skip it cause it sometimes takes so long to read/listen to all! Don’t need to hold my hand so much!
