The game's biggest draw is also it's major drawback. Basically this is a sandbox tower defense game with so many options to torture the enemies. Hearing their screams is so satisfying. You also choose your own challenge both with what weapons to take on every level and also what runes (negative modifiers that give more xp and therefore more gems to upgrade stuff). With many levels being either too easy or too difficult it's very hard to find the right challenge for me. Therefore completing the game would involve too much trial and error for it to be fun. I realise I'm giving this a thumbs down because I didn't enjoy it enough but this really isn't you typical negative review. If the above sandbox experience sounds fun to you than it's a great game. If you're like me it will become frustrating. Another major issue might be that you can't go back on some of the choices you've made. When you earn enough xp you get to choose between gems, more starting cash or sometimes a third option. In hindsight the first levels would have been better spend on money than gems. Though to be fair, I can't be sure how much of a difference it would have made... because again, I can't redo it to find ou…

This is one of my favorite max/min strategy games.

The first one of the Dungeon Warfare saga, is still a great game in comparison to its followers. While more subdued and with less variety than the later games, I appreciate the harder progression and more limited powerups of the game. Great even to come back after Dungeon Warfare 2. These games are the best Tower Defense games in the market.
An interesting game, held back by its extreme difficulty.
This would be a "Neutral" review if that were an option. Recommended for tower defense enthusiasts, not recommended for completionists. Most of Dungeon Warfare is engaging and rewarding, but some design decisions left me baffled. The endgame leveling curve is painfully slow considering how little reward it offers, and certain stages (especially The Mountain) feel disproportionately harder than the rest of the game. This absolutely should not be a game that demands 100+ hours to complete. Of my 122 total hours played, around 30 were spent grinding Endless mode on various stages just to gain XP, along with dozens of failed attempts to clear The Mountain with 8 runes enabled. That left a bitter taste at the very end of what was otherwise a good experience. Because of these absurd design choices, I won’t be trying Dungeon Warfare 2 or 3.
