I really, really, REALLY wanted this to be good. Spoiler: it's not. The original Playstation 1 game is one of my "white whale" titles: it was badly broken on release, balance-wise, and I don't think anybody ever beat it without exploits on the Playstation. Sadly, this isn't it. This feels like they took the original game, wrapped it in an emulator to pretend it's installed on Windows 98 at a brutally low resolution, and that's all. On a modern Windows 11 machine running 4K, it almost managed to crash my GPU at least twice in 11 minutes, and just barely avoided wiping out my Desktop, because it doesn't run properly in modern resolutions, yet wants to demand full-screen, and is clumsily implemented when handing back control. I'm honestly surprised that in 2026 there are still developers out there pulling these kinds of stunts, when rendering at the proper resolution and letterboxing a scaled version on a modern GPU is so straightforward. I'm sad and disappointed, but not surprised; surely the source code's not really available and this was just a cash-grab. The game's been available as abandonware for ages and the original developers probably left the industry 20 years ago. Mea…27 found this helpful
Feels more like I'm fighting the UI than playing the game. Issues with pathfinding and the targeting of enemy units results in needing to replay missions. Getting spellcasting failures with the Amber Wizard is very frustrating. Repeatedly clicking the Hero button to buff your own units engaged in combat quickly becomes tedious, and having to disable each unit’s automated AI before the start of each battle is a waste of time, especially when replaying missions in attempts to minimize casualties.9 found this helpful
The controls are unlabeled and the clicking is inaccurate. This game needs to be able to issue commands while paused. I could not get my squad to do what i wanted them to do. I played this game for PS1 many years ago and i enjoyed it. The screen and controls on the PS1 version was playable: this was not.5 found this helpful
Pure unadultered nostalgia. Played this game on the playstation as a child. Still just as frickin hard as I remember it, but I did actually beat it back in the day. I remember having to be pretty cheesy though. Its a really old game, pretty cheap if you wanna give it a whirl, but...its from an era before a lot of quality of life things were added to games. It is pretty in depth for a playstation game though, maybe it was also on the computer too, but I was more of a console gamer back then.3 found this helpful
this game is very old and extremely clunky in controls. once you are used to it, it is totaly playable but its clear this is from the very early years of strategy pc games. the amount of love and creativity that was poured in this game is beyond belief. it is a difficult game with a lot whole lot of depth. if you are in for a challange this game is well worth it. if you want a more streamlined experience with much better controls try dark omen instead.2 found this helpful
Sadly the game just isn't playable. I was looking forward to playing again.1 found this helpful
