About What the Healer Left Behind
How many times have you used resurrection in an RPG?A party member falls in combat. You open the menu and use a spell, an item, or an ability. And then the character returns as if nothing had happened, and the mission continues. But… what if something had happened? In What the Healer Left Behind, you take on the role of a swordsman sent on a common guild mission. Just retrieve an item, return to the village, and maybe give a report. The mission fails. Not everyone returns. And someone is brought back. The village is still there. The houses are still standing. The streets look the same. But something doesn't fit.The silence lingers. The healer's presence becomes unsettling. Fragments of information emerge where they shouldn't.As the night progresses, the world begins to behave strangely, and little by little, it becomes clear that the resurrection was not a neutral act, it was a choice.Everything points to a single isolated place, far from the village.A place where something was left behind. And that shouldn't have been brought back. What the Healer Left Behind is a first-person psychological horror experience about faith, trust, and the unseen consequences of accepting miracles without question. A short game, focused on atmosphere, environmental narrative, and growing unease where the horror doesn't come from death, but from what insists on remaining alive.Features
- First-person narrative experience
- Psychological horror focused on atmosphere and tension
- Structure divided into acts, with clear narrative progression
- Retro visual style inspired by games from the early 2000s
- Short and experimental game, focused on sensation over combat

I'm a big fan of small free steam games but this one sucks too bad to be fun. Just a bunch of text boxes with a couple walking segments3 found this helpful
Just not that interesting to me.
WAY too much dialogue, not enough game.
The description is way more intense than the actual game, unfortunately. The concept is fine, but the execution is bad. There's no real sound design to the game at all, no music or ambient sounds, just footsteps and a couple scream effects. The pacing is not great, and the one part where there's an enemy has zero danger because they just drift towards you slowly. And the graphics are... well, not good, and also obviously tested on something like a 4:3 screen. The biggest issue is the "sleeping" scene where the blinking effect is made by two boxes clapping together... but on a wide screen you can see the rest of the room to the sides of them as they meet in the middle. Same with the well, the rope just rises up through the top of the well. It feels very much like someone's first student project, but this dev put out another paid game so that can't be the case.
The Healer definitely left something. Behind...
game was short but fun, a lot of reading.
