Hate to bash a free game made with effort and care, but this isn't for me and I can't see me recommending it to indie horror fans. The controls and gameplay design is odd and unintuitive. I think they were going for like "Amnesia but you can hold an item at the same time"? It's hard to explain but you'll know if you try it. you have to click and drag to open doors, drawers etc, but the use key picks things up and uses things. So I guess you could... use the mouse to drag open doors while youre holding something? I'm not sure why there isn't just a simple inventory where things you pick up go and then you can put them in your hand pressing tab like most games do. i guess what im getting at is the design clunkiness feels deliberate and by choice which makes it somehow way less fun for me than if it was clunky by accident. doesn't help you can only carry one thing at a time. what am i naked with no arms? The atmosphere isn't scary since from the start you are already being bombarded with some lady talking to you, well i guess they want it to sound scary or menacing, but it just sorta sounds like someone chirping at me making fun of me for not figuring out where they hid the remote. …4 found this helpful
It's pretty good for a free game, the puzzles are a bit confusing but It doesn't have hard mechanics. I enjoyed my time playing it, although I got scared a lot.1 found this helpful
It was ok. Really laggy and there is no story. Or any real substance. 3/10 on the pear scale.1 found this helpful
In the Prologue of Whispering Death you wake up in a twisted nightmare version of your own home and have to escape from there. This is by no means a groundbreaking new concept, but the game has a few strengths. The atmosphere feels always threatening. You are never fully at ease, since you can both see a demon lurking around the corner and hear her talking to you. In the beginning this is great and immersive, but after a few minutes it wears off. The voice clips keep repeating too often and too frequent and you will come to discover, that you don’t get attacked by the demon, unless you enter a room with her inside. The gameplay actually incorporates the nightmare setting quite nicely. Instead of respawning you will keep waking up each time you died, like a nightmare you can’t escape from. The difference is, that key items will be rearranged each time with procedural generation. On the one side it’s great, because it encourages really exploring your house each playthrough. On the other hand it can also make the game much more cumbersome, since objects sometimes get hidden in really obscure places or occasionally seem to disappear altogether. The game also has a really annoying ph…1 found this helpful
Exploring this small apartment that “never repeats itself” is supposed to be a horror experience, but it completely misses the mark. There’s no build-up of tension — you start the game and are immediately bombarded with random knocking, whispers in your ear, lights turning off, doors slamming… In this cacophony, even jumpscares feel like a welcome break. The game clearly wants to be mysterious and encourage players to uncover the story on their own, but those cheap gameplay tricks destroy any sense of immersion. What you actually see isn’t intriguing — it’s just boring. The escape sequence at the end is a complete failure. If you somehow manage to even reach the window and figure out what you’re supposed to do in such a short time — I envy you for not having to replay the whole game.1 found this helpful
