Wrath and Retribution

It's a fun little space shooter even if it's a bit short on content. The main gameplay loop of collecting weapons will keep a player coming back for more pew pew. The one weakness is the enemy fighters. They do not maneuver the same as the player ship. I know this is done to make them harder, but it's a bit off putting seeing them make impossible turns. The capital ships are fun to engage due to being able to destroy them piece by piece. Two things I would change, would be the voice of the A.I. and having to go through the trouble of skipping the last battle cutscene every time.

I had some fun with this but I keep getting a new game only screen when starting. I have saved the saved games folder many times but it's getting old trying to find a backup that doesn't say new game only and not continue. If I could find a solution to this I will update my review. I have played this game for 16 hours so it is fun. Only gripes I have with gameplay are the constant missiles that are fired at you to which there is no defense that I can see and the Banshees that are always instant death when they are present. I have played many many space games and this is by far the most difficult IMO. It needs balancing and a few tweaks and the new game issue fixed and then maybe it's ready for prime time.

I loved this game! The dual stick control, aim with right stick, strafe with left stick, is the control scheme I wish all space games used. I really felt I could get in the flow of flying. So many space games coming out seem to favor mouse+kbd control and I don't know why. I wish the game had more story and depth. The story writing is actually very interesting already, I just wish it was presented with more content, rather than just the Merlin monologues. Cinematics, or at least beautiful still frame/concept art would go a long way I think. Also, the variety of enemies felt really limited between levels. It was very fun fighting big capital ships, and targeting specific systems. But I felt I knew what all the enemies would be like after the first level. If more content is added, I'll definitely play!

So, if that's what draws you in then get the game and play it in small bursts for some fun space combat[/b] The combat is really fun and there's tactical depth and customization available to your ship, but getting there is incredibly frustrating due to balance concerns and the effects it has on the roguelike design of repetition. It also made quickly made me feel like I was beating my head against the wall for petty amounts of currency to get upgrades. For me this highlighted how much the game relies on its great combat to pull you in -- which isn't a bad thing of course, but I felt the repetition wasn't worth it for me after an hour. Ultimately, this game fills the void of old fans of TIE Fighter and other similar niche games. So, it's exciting to see developers still working in the space. -SOS (defense) missions are heavily unbalanced. You'll be facing an enemy capital ship and a swarm of fighters. You know what? in the scheme of all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out there, all the cash grabs and random tiny dev teams building some alpha sandbox of some bigger idea yet to come, this ones got something. Lots still tp polish but there has been a steady stream of updates since I bought it and I feel I have already gotten my moneys worth. It's great to be able to just jump into some frenetic action for 15 min without a care whatsoever. oh no, I died... I guess ill just start again and keep having fun? without any real negative impacts of death it frees you up to just enjoy the explosions. The combat and music are what keeps it going. It's a great loop but right now its best in short bursts. As good as the combat is, it lacks the depth to keep you going for an hour or two, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nice to smash out 25 min between rounds of something else.

This REALLY scratches the itch when I'm away from my full sim/hosas setup! Pleasantly surprised at how fun the core flight/dogfight experience is, and I cannot wait to see where this project goes.
