About Wurmus

Wurmus is a non-traditional snake-like which rewards creative movement, spatial awareness, and risk management. It's best experienced with a gamepad and headphones.

A different breed of Snake

Outrun, outsmart, and eat your opponents. Move backwards, strafe sideways, and turn freely. Collect power-ups which taunt, instill fear, and grant stability.

Improve your high score

Earn points for captures and longevity. Purposely lose encounters—and manage the ensuing chaos—to pad your highest score yet.

An accessible experience

Wurmus provides high visual contrast, binaural audio cues, and screen reader support. Its graphics can be toggled off to be enjoyed with audio alone.

Don't let the cute minimalist graphics deceive you, this is a horror game. The stress inducing sound design mixed with the chaotic gameplay create a surprisingly anxious experience.

This is a FREE snake like game that is fully playable by the Visually Impaired, so much so there is an option to turn off graphics. Sound is decent and the learning curve is understanding what all the sounds mean, there are things to colllect such as power ups and things to avoid that bring game over. Fire up NVDA or your screen reader of choice to hear the menus and other text being read out. Then try and beat your highscore. Had this had Steam leader boards and acheivements and the text to speech been baked in it would have been worth a little cash. For free you cannot complain, it's a good little time waster.

"Wurmus" is a pointless, weak, minimalist ripoff of games like Snake/Tron only more of a tech demo than a real game anyone would be interested in. The result? Failure... see below for the player counts. What do you do in the game? Control a worm, get bigger, or not. Uninstalling this is the most fun you can have with it. This is another case of Itch failing the one single job it has... to protect and preserve the gaming industry from badly made amateur games, by containing them to their group-hug website so they don't leak out to platforms like Steam where gamers look for professionally made, high quality products. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" for graphics instead of anything remotely contemporary. I'm sure the "developer" thought this would come across as "artistic", but it…
