Details

The Darkness comes!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/888900 You must overcome eight-chapters of dark-platform puzzles in a child-like universe. You have a laser beam to trigger locks and a laser gun to shoot enemies. The plot drives it forward and the arc usually works well, though some levels are incredibly frustrating due to the player physics. Enjoyable mini-epic.

Summary

An endearing platformer with nice gimmicks, but level designs need polish. Recommended
Pros: - appealing story and characterisation - simple, child-freindly puzzle-platformer - nice use of checkpointing - once understood, nice control mechanism Cons: - controls are not immediatly clear: you do need to use mouse to complete this game - artwork is cute and attractive, but some may not like it's basic style - level design is usually stron when involving jumps and buttons, but frustrating when relying on speed and dodging - the jump is a fixed arc: you can shimmy left-right when jumping, but jump itself has fixed height, and that is a problem on some maps - the menu system is basic and not clear to draw users in: recommend show all 8 chapters o…9 found this helpful
Zyx - The sound when you got lasered
Quite enjoyable sometimes puzzle-like platformer and Jump'n'Run. All of the beautiful handdrawn backgrounds contribute to a dark atmosphere and mystery. The game consist of many unique elements like a switchable fireball gun / laser switcher, time turning platforms, rotating / sequential lasers, floating ball shooting enemies, wall of death. There are 8 challenging levels which make you think, puzzle or run for your life or learn the deadly laser sequences and patterns. If you are an oldschool player I would give it a try anyways7 found this helpful
Short, messy platformer.
Rather basic but still not without challenge, I'd give ZYX STORY a neutral recommendation if able. I played it because it was the last game in alphabets on my list and it has achievements. Gimmick is that you can shoot a funky laser to press buttons that activate or de-activate lasers. With this come simple puzzles and platforming sections. There's also the usual shooting traps and blocks that turn lethal and safe every few seconds. In addition to the laser, there's three types of enemies that sometimes appear, killed with the alt fire. Free-aim shooting is way easier with mouse than gamepad, so when the first bigger wave of enemies came at the same time, I had to switch to keyboard+mouse. Otherwise, my Xbox Controller performed fine. Though, I had to unplug it and restart the game before keyboard started responding again. Levels are short but still sometimes have conveniently placed respawn points after and before trap sections. The character jumps really high, without being able to adjust the height, so hitting ceiling traps is a (fortunately infrequent) problem. Visually it's a mess, though thankfully there are no surprise traps. Howe…4 found this helpful
Well, it's a pretty interesting game. It offers some really good challenges that requires you to keep your concentration up. It doesn't even cost so much and for 1h I think it's worth the price.2 found this helpful
Pretty difficult game, in my point of view it's a game with good gameplay and hype. I will absolutely look forward for the next project, i suggest this game for y'all retro'-pixel-game lovers2 found this helpful
