F1 2016 is no longer available on the Steam store. Bummer, it wasn't bad at all. Good for a budget racing game if that was your thing.

The regulations changed in a pretty big way in 2017 and opened up aero development for the teams irl. And this is a decent F1 game, so it's also the best way to experience these regs. After the horror of 2014 and the lolwut of 2015, this was very much a return to form. Nowadays though? While don't have much nostalgia for the era as it was a bit boring TV-wise, this game is a time capsule of when EA didn't own the licence, Americans didn't own the brand, and when the target audience were already-existing fans. It has no need to explain F1's rules like you're a new casual fan who just finished DTS. Compare the main menu of this vs the main menu in F1 25/26 - a picture can say a thousand words. As for the driving... well let's just say I understand why some drivers publicly criticised these regs. Downforce is very minimal, and so if you're used to the 2017-2021 era or *especially* ground effect, it will feel like driving on ice in comparison. I wouldn't call it bad, just accurate and something to get used to. That will make me a better driver in other games. Like most racing games of this era and prior, the AI is absolutely suicidal unless you've got DRS on them. Never go wheel-to-…
