✦ AI summary

Firefighting Simulator - The Squad offers satisfying solo tactical squad management gameplay reminiscent of SWAT 4, with rewarding moments when coordinating your team's actions, but is held back by repetitive mission design, unreliable AI teammates that frequently fail to follow orders or complete objectives, and poor vehicle handling that frustrates the driving portions. Players note the gameplay loop becomes stale quickly after 15-20 hours as missions lack variety beyond putting out fires and rescuing people, and technical issues compound the experience.
6/10 for solo tactical fun // 3/10 for optimisation and multiplayer.

Grab it on a 70%+ sale if you want a fun squad-management game to knock out in a weekend.
I went into this with low expectations and expecting a casual firefighting game but ended up playing 20+ hours and beating every single mission on the map. It's surprisingly addictive as a solo tactical squad game, but it has some massive flaws you need to know before buying. THE GOOD: AI Squad Gameplay: Playing solo with the AI bots (shoutout to Jack, Tom, and Bill) actually feels like a firefighting version of SWAT 4. Telling your squad to breach doors, vent roofs, and hook up hoses is really satisfying when a plan comes together. Responding to Callouts: Hopping in the fire engine with sirens blaring never really gets old. Fun Fire Mechanics: Dealing with backdrafts, chemical fires, electrical hazards, etc, keeps you on your toes. Missions with unique set pieces (like a crashed plane in the woods) are great fun. THE BAD: Terrible Optimization: Even on decent PCs, the performance is rough. Driving through the city often turns into a 15 …

I wish I could give this a flat s0-s0 rating. It's not bad for a little while, but it gets stale quickly. It's basically doing the same thing over and over. I mean firefighters do a lot more than just put out fires and drag people out of buildings. That is 95% of what you'll do in this game. I think I had exactly 2 missions that called for the circular saw after playing for over 15 hrs. The AI firemen are dumb as rocks. Sometimes you'll run into a burning house just to find one of the AI firefighters staring at an inferno, holding a hose with no water coming out. The driving is also really horrible. The fire engines turn like some kind of weird tilt-a-whirl. Imagine the way a weathervane rotates. That's exactly the way these engines turn. The fires are almost always way far away from your starting point. This would never happen in real life. Usually there are so many firehouses to cover different neighborhoods. Not in this game. This is like driving from HQ to a fire 3 counties away. Could be a really good game more variety were added to it.

I really like this game. I wanted to give it a try before buying Firefighter Simulator: Ignite. It’s fun, but it also has its flaws. Your AI teammates don’t always help you. Sometimes they put out half of a burning building but leave part of it on fire, which then causes the fire to spread again. Sometimes they simply refuse to put out certain fires at all. For example, in a mission where a restaurant is on fire, they managed to put out everything except the tables, which then caught fire again and set everything else on fire. I even gave them a direct command to put out the fire, but they still refused to do it. Sometimes you also have to hand them a hose yourself because they won’t pick up a new one, even when there are still hoses available in the fire truck. Instead, they say that there are no more hoses available. Another problem is that the AI teammates don’t know how to use fire extinguishers. This becomes especially annoying with grease fires, which the player has to put out with a fire extinguisher because the AI simply can’t deal with them. Another time, during a mission, they somehow lost the person we were supposed to rescue, so I had to restart the entire mission. …
