Base Game – 10/10
In short - Tunic is a true adventure game!
Exploration, Puzzles, Secrets
To start with, you just dive into the game with no instructions at all. But as you explore, you find pages of the in-game guide, which is a piece of art in its own right. I just love the retro art style, which gives it the feel of old magazines printed on regular paper rather than glossy paper. Each time I found a page, I was glad not because I learned something new, but because I got to see beautiful art. The guide is written in the game's own language, which is actually a language, not just random characters. You will have to figure out the game mechanics based on images and a small number of phrases in English (or whatever language you've selected). Personally, I like the concept that you need to figure out everything on your own. I had a lot of fun exploring the world and finding various secret paths and shortcuts. Solving puzzles is probably the best part of this game. Often I would see something interesting that looked like a puzzle and think, [i]Wait, is this what the game wants me to do? I really want it to be, please let this be the right thing to …

What an amazing game. It’s games like these I will always prefer a good indie game. The idea of using a made up language for the world building is done perfectly. The manual really feels like the old school manuals you used to get with video games. It’s reminiscent of old Nintendo Power magazines and the hints you would get if you had it. The concept of having almost all of the tools at your disposal, but not knowing it, is such a good gameplay mechanic. It scratches a similar itch to Outer Wilds. I wish there were more games like these, since you can’t really replay them and get the same experience. One thing I’ll knock it for is some end game puzzles you need to figure out if you want a better ending. They are definitely worth it, and smartly done, but some of the solutions are really lengthy. Definitely play this game if you like exploring and discovering things. There’s almost always a chest or something better around the corner.

This game is so magical. I felt like I was a little kid playing Zelda: A Link to the Past for the first time. If you like opening treasure chests you’ll love this game.

Fantastic game with charming visuals, atmospheric music, and intriguing depth to its worldbuilding. The combat is fun, but can punishing as the controls feel a little imprecise at times (the parry is stupidly hard to pull off). I am not a huge souls-like fan and found some of the fights difficult but it's manageable. I would readily recommend this to anyone with a sense of curiosity, but if you lack paitience and are the type to reach straight for google the moment you can't figure something out, then you won't get the most of this. Be ready to think outside the box with some of the puzzles, and pay close attention to world around you and the manual you piece togehter. Do yourself a favour, go in blind and piece things together yourself; it's incredibly rewarding. Easily one of the best games I've played this year.
