Juice Mania

In this video I take a look at Juice Mania, a match three with a different take on match three. In this title you don't move items to make matches, you need to find existing matches and drag your mouse over the ones you wish to match. The objective is to mix juice drinks for customers and collect their money, you need to reach the income goal before close time to progress. There are powerups, purchasable items, and obstacles. It's an older re-release and for its time it looks well-made especially its art, it has a comic strip to tell the story which looks great. You do need to get used to the selection method though because it will change the selected gems if you move your mouse incorrectly (this would be great in touch screen if it supported it). Also it's not quite as intuitive as newer games and I sometimes had to double click money to collect it but it's well designed and fun to play plus it's very cheap. A good little time waster. Simple game. Art is bad and game window is very small. Music is good. It plays ok but it is little annoying that your play is all time stopped for text.

Whilst it does following the match 3 genre quite well, follows a reward scheme in the sense that you can gain coins to buy recipes etc, the response time of clicking on something and the game actually responding can be quite tedious and ruin the experience. The graphics are reminiscent of '80s manga and the customers appear to be some sort of stop motion animation, but they do very little in terms of adding to the experience. Also the constant waitress telling you to do things when you're just about to do them is quite frustrating. For example if there is money waiting on the counter, she'll tell you to grab it. You need to then click on "continue" to do anything and then click the money - which bearing in mind the game does not always respond to, leading you to have to click again before she pops up once again to boss you about. My suggestion is to try the game if you really love Match-3 games and wait for a sale. Otherwise you're not missing out on much.
