✦ AI summary

Netherworld Covenant is a fast-paced roguelike with solid combat mechanics and great aesthetics that players find responsive and satisfying, but it's held back by questionable design choices like forced artifact replacements, bullshot hitboxes, and some generic elements that make it feel unpolished. The game performs well, especially on Steam Deck, and offers decent build variety with multiple characters, though some feel it needs more content and refinement before justifying full price.

F***ing imagine NOT being able to SKIP an artifact if you dont want it and you BEING FORCED to take it since after the boss next only room being random. Both my runs (7+ bosses each) ive got my build ruined by being forced to replace my core-build artifact. Oh, and those mobs with the tentacle cone attack for nearly half of the screen - chef`s kiss. Be prepared to some bulls*it hitboxes. Overall its an 6,5/10 roguelite, with great combat, low difficulty curve if you dont rush and a lot of problems from 10+ y.o. titles in this genre. Pros: -- good combat core, great responsiveness of a character -- to some degree interesting bosses -- good optimization -- great setting and aesthetics Cons: -- big amount of bulls*it attack patterns and hitboxes -- number of game design choices that are outdated and could rly upset a player who is accustomed to polished games -- low readability of the UI -- repeatability of the power-ups with a rly low amount of unique ones At first i thought i could give this game another chance after some patches (which devs delivering), but its been released for 9 month already, and it still has this much of a newborn illnesses, so ill pass on this one..

feels a bit too generic and repetitive, and the unlock seem to require quite a lot of grinding

The game feels like very early access.

Played on Steam Deck ONLY. Runs fine on Steam Deck with default settings. I didn't bother seeing if the graphics could be turned up because it looks great. No stuttering, no frame drops, no bugs, crashes or glitches of any kind. Had no trouble reading any text. The gameplay is good, combat is fast and snappy, and has weight to it; It took me a couple runs to really get the hang of it. Easy 4/5, could be a 5/5 in another year if it gets more content. Might not be worth it's full price($30AUD), I did get it on sale for $16 and that feels right.

Great roguelike with fantastic build variety, art direction and indie charm. Very fast-paced, with multiple character options and multiple playthroughs. Recommended!
