BARK (2021)

Why is this game so amazingly, odds-defyingly, groundshakingly good? Well, I'll tell you. BARK has taken a niche genre of game that usually focuses on punishing difficulty, overwhelming screens full of moving objects to track, and distilled the classic elements of it down to a simply adorable, sweet, accessible story that can be absorbed in five minutes and appreciated immediately. BARK is [i]fun[/i]. Seriously fun. Stupidly fun. Fun alone. Fun with friends. Fun for longtime shmup fans who aren't afraid of cuteness. Fun for brand-new players who don't want to be dropped into bullet hell without a lifeline. It's quick to pick up and roll with, and yet, it's challenging enough to hold interest for a broad range of player skill levels underserved by the HERE THAR BE MONSTERS LADDIE brutality of hardcore shmups. Thing is...I love the brutal shmups. And I love BARK too. What I needed to do was immediately obvious, but the game was balanced to make it a little harrowing, purely for timing on some enemy swarms. Basically brought this game because i love animals, heart touching intro and adorable crew of b.ark. I searched for silver but find gold - a solid, classic vibing Shoot-em-up with coolest heartwarming story and most cuttiest crew who wrek baddies. CONS - as any shoot em up - this game is pretty short and leave leave little to replay. absence of "tries" or "lives" (If you boom - you restart in singleplayer, negated in coop by revive) Pros - Coop, gameplay, characters, story. I'm not really sure why I kept hearing about this game in random places lol. Maybe if you have kids get this on sale, but it was actually a little bit challenging for kids, and there are way better things you could be doing with your time. Maybe if you're really really good at schmups AND you have kids? That's the best I can do here...

B.ARK is a shmup game that I bought a very long time ago, but never got around to playing it until recently. The devs claim that the game was inspired by saturday morning cartoons and they surely have accomplished what they had set out to do. fun mostly unknown game

I thought this was gonna be the game that finally beats Gradius V (a 60 dollar game) but no. It's great in every respect except you only get one basic weapon (wtf!?!) which makes it super boring. That's when I realized why it's priced at 2 dollars: It's just a teaser, really. Could be worth the price but I don't want boring in my library so I'm thinking about refunding it. I am, however, waiting feverishly for a sequel with some kind of weapon shop. Would be worth a lot more money.
