Braveland

Very short game. Main campaign can be completed on Normal in about 3.5 hours. Still, a very enjoyable little time waster.... IF you got it for $1-2 on sale. If you paid more or even full price? You got ripped off, buddy.

[h1]Shallow and repetitive[/h1] Braveland is a tactical RPG developed by Tortuga Games and published by PlayPanic. It was made as a primarily mobile game and then was ported to PC. I've bought this game because I'm a huge fan of the King's Bounty series and this one is an obvious King's Bounty clone. However it pales in comparison to King's Bounty by any possible metric, and being mobile-first is not a legit excuse for that. [h2]Gameplay or lack thereof[/h2] Braveland has two interconnecting modes: adventure and battle. During adventuring, the player follows a highly linear story path, progressing by traveling between pre-defined nodes. A single node can contain either a treasure, a shop, enemy troops or an altar. The main problem appears from the very start: [i]the variability or freedom is near-non-existing.[/i] There's some semblance of non-linearity in the form of off-path nodes but it becomes pretty obvious that those nodes are either: [list] [*]Obligatory, since without them it'd be, depending on the difficulty, either impossible or extremely tedious to progress [*]Useless as they do not provide anything of importance except a few dialogue prompts. It's a decent game, and the underlaying idea is good and the graphics is quite good. But the game is super short, and there isn't really any strategy to the game. You can complete the entire game and even get all achievements without having to stop and think about your strategy. If you can get it for free, then sure go ahead and play it, but it's not worth the (current price) money for such a short game with almost no replayability.

Possible to complete this game in 1-2 days with all achievements. It has good level progression, very smooth. There are a few bugs and it may crash here and there, possibly due to this being ported from a mobile platform. It does not use endless procedurally generated level. Each fight is slightly unique. There is a gradual escalation in the difficulty of bosses. Recommend complete the game on Easy for the first run (just to get used to the combat system and progression), and afterwards the hardest mode would be more straightforward (but not as easy!). One of the best things about this game is that it has a clear end, it does not go on forever, unlike similar games in this genre. The story is not groundbreaking, but it is good. Did not listen to the music, muted it and put on a rock playlist in the background. 8/10 gg
