About Yakuza 5 Remastered

✦ AI summary

Play as Kazuma Kiryu in this epic conclusion to the original saga, where the legendary yakuza emerges from his peaceful life as a Fukuoka cab driver to prevent an all-out war threatening to engulf Japan's criminal underworld. Experience the series' grandest scale yet with four interconnected characters pursuing their dreams across five major Japanese cities in stunning 1080p and 60fps.

Experience the fifth chapter of the Kazuma Kiryu saga in 1080p and 60fps.

In December 2012, Kazuma Kiryu left his past as a ""legendary yakuza"" and his place of peace in Okinawa.

He now spends his days as a cab driver in a corner of Fukuoka's red-light district, hiding his true identity. All for the sake of fulfilling the ""dream"" of an important person.

However, a disturbing atmosphere begins to drift through the supposedly well-balanced society of the Kanto and Kansai yakuza, emerging as a plot to drag all of the yakuza organizations in Japan to war.

In order to protect the ""dreams"" of his loved one, Kiryu is drawn into the vortex of battle once again.

This is the story of four men and a girl chasing their ""dreams"" in five major cities in Japan, presented on the largest scale of the series yet.

Complete The Dragon of Dojima’s journey.

I love the Yakuza series. Truly, all of it. It's a masterpiece and probably one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. But I can't stand this part. It's trite, repetitive, plainly dumb in many places - and not the good, Yakuza-style, wacky type of dumb. I could not force myself to continue playing it, and when I finally did - after 1.5 years - I was only able to go through the main story because the rest is just so unbelievably uninteresting. The new cities are bland, the new character is... just there. The story... I know Yakuza is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, over the top, but good god, this was so profoundly stupid and overcomplicated without absolutely any reason, it's shocking. Talk about a dissapointing intrigue. And the unending slog of a finale with its completely out of the blue main villain (who??) - I'm just baffled. And it doesn't help that the final battle decided to crash on me when I got the antagonist to the third of his 7(?) life bars and the last save had been... at the beginning of a 2-hour chapter. That was the ultimate breaking point for me, I watched the final 25 minutes on YT. Low point of the series, for sure. Hopefully the lowest. Installin…

What a wonderful game, a total 180 from y4. Felt great to play, the music was fantastic, and for the first time, I 100%ed a side story for a character. As an idol lover, this game was made for me.

Yakuza 5, with all its flaws, is an enjoyable game. It's a mixed bag of a video game with its scope, but its ambition fits with the motif about dreams. Some dreams crash and burn, some are taken away, some succeed or fail, and some people learn to let go. The game might not achieve its goals, but it moves forward just like the characters.
