✦ AI summary

Nobody Wants to Die is praised for its striking cyberpunk noir aesthetic, atmospheric presentation, and solid voice acting, but players consistently criticize it as a walking simulator with minimal gameplay depth where detective mechanics feel more like a chore than engaging puzzles. The story starts strong but disappoints with a weak ending and shallow world-building that falls apart under scrutiny, though some find the Cyberpunk 2077-style investigation mechanics and overall vibe entertaining enough to warrant a purchase on sale rather than at full price.

I'll give this a recommendation since I dig the Orwellian, Cyberpunk Noir detective themes of Nobody Wants to Die, but It's not much of a game, more of a overpriced, glorified PC tech-demo. The story, voice acting, and visuals are nice, but the actual gameplay is lacking. Using the detective gadgets are clever but a chore to use in practice. Only problem is, that's the majority of the gameplay, walking around in an empty crime scene looking for evidence. Then the ending is a also a complete cop out. Probably one of the biggest cop out endings I've seen since EA bought out Bioware and ruined Mass Effort 3. It's like Critical Hit Games blew their entire wad trying to make pretty assets their 4K walking sim game, then ran out of money for the third act. Also, if you're only going to give me a couple of minor variations of the same ending, don't mislead me into thinking that dialogue choices actually matter when I'm still going to see the same thing regardless. Straight up deception. Ran fine overall in 4K on a 9070 XT/9800x3D setup. Had some nasty framerate issues but it was fixable in the video settings. No major bugs, crashes etc. Wait until this is on sale. Definitely don't …

This game is all looks. Gameplay of a Visual Novel, which wouldn't be of an issue if the writing was at least good, it's decent at best. The environments might look excessively pretty (they are), but without an ounce of liberty of movement, it doesn't feel immersive from my point of view. Huge deception on my part.

The game is a mix of walking sim and brain dance mechanics from Cyberpunk 2077. Good retro-futuristic style, good graphics, and music. The story is nothing special but fairly interesting, reminiscent of several good noir detectives. Maybe full price won't fully justify itself, but on sale it is a good purchase if you want the mechanics mentioned above. Sadly, no following entries from the devs were announced.

It's like a movie play it once and that's it, no shooting no depth. But a goodish Story.

Presentation is great. Really get the noir vibes here, even though we are in a far-off future. Certainly is able to built-up and maintain that depressive atmosphere. Ichorite thing looks cool, and optimization is good. Music is quite good, too. Gameplay is minimal though, which is ok, if you expect a walking simulator, but may disappoint if you think you will be doing "real detective work". Story-wise and world-building-wise... If you do not try to think about stuff too deeply - it's fine. But if you do, concepts fall apart. The body-auctions, with some mandatory subscriptions and consciousness banks, which seem to be just wasting space and electricity.. The idea of humanity striving for eternal life is understandable, logical, but it is unclear how exploitation and corruption works here exactly. Especially, when there is a tool that can magically reconstruct whole scenes, like a time machine. You can even interact with reconstruction to some degree. Not as much as in Eternal Threads, but still. The point is, this tech was not explained either, and probably because it breaks the concept even more. There are also quite a few things in the plot itself that make little to no sense, …

I was super surprised by how cool this game was. Honestly, I felt a little dumb by the end because I didn't really udnerstand what was going on, but the aesthetic is amazing, and the whole cyber-noir vibe is super cool. The investigation mechanic reminds me a little bit of the braindance investigations from Cyberpunk 2077, and you get to roll back and forward, adding new perspectives and evidence to the investigation. It's a very, very immersive game, high recommend if you're considering it!
