Developed and published by Night Signal Entertainment in 2024, Home Safety Hotline is an investigative fictional reality text game. Receive calls, look up possible causes and witness a strange reality unravel as days progress. The whole game is presented in a faux windows 98/ windows 2000 aesthetic, complete with compressed videos and news articles that expand the in-game universe. The focus of the game is receiving calls, isolating the main problem presented and giving the caller the cause of the problems observed. The game progress is split into different days, each presenting new challenges and new anomalies to discover. New entries on your codex are presented, as are some extra bits of lore and a job evaluation from the day before. Controlled mostly by the mouse, the game can be customized in several ways. You can choose the resolution, CRT filter utilizations, along with a font to ease the reading, and as an added point, you can disable certain in-game photos of phobia triggering content, but, as the game menu presents, it does not affect the descriptions, audio and video features that contain said things. Analog horror has a special charm, so getting to play a game where I solve these kinds of issues is just right for me! I had lots of fun, especially with the followup calls if I messed up. Even though getting the perfect run would be the ultimate dream, this game does sadly lose some charm once you beat it, as the scenarios it presents aren't really unique afterward.
