Red Faction®: Armageddon™

This game is wildly good. I can't believe video games have regressed so much. This game is just fun to play, and it's a lot of fun building and destroying environments and using all the wild weaponry. Contrast that with the $90 walking simulators/subversive re-education games they pump out nowadays. No wonder I don't want to play new vidja games. Play old games. Play Red Faction

Uniquely creative! This game is one of the most fun, destructible world games I've ever enjoyed! This game would be ripe for a remake, with fresh destructible Mars content and new quests that explore even more of Mars!

Story? Crap. Everything else? Amazing. Game deserves more thumbs up.

i think its a pretty neat game. Magnet gun go BRRRRR~ Frame-rate is uncapped on DX9, 60fps on DX11, at the cost of having worser SSAO (i just turn it off) and no tessellation. Still, CPU bottlenecked for me: 130+ fps on 5600x which is more than great, but somewhat surprising [h2]Note: one of the [b]bossfight is frame rate dependant.[/b][/h2] Which means its near impossible to do on DX9. i relaunch the game in DX11 just for this bossfight. i'm pretty sure this game was designed for 30fps, but everything is still doable on 60. When game freezes, it wont let me ALT+TAB to task manager to force close. Solution: - Close Task Manager*, - WinKey+Tab for new Desktop, - Ctrl+Shift+Esc for Task Manager, *you can't open here if you already have it running - Close RF:A from virtual desktop's Task Manager. Thankfully, the freezing is not often. There's an FOV fix online for the poor FOV, but it's not customizable afaik. i think 75 (vertical?) is a bit high but way better than default.

What a bag of issues this game is. Small FOV and shaky camera during anything happening on screen makes you feel like looking out the window while riding inside a washing machine. Physics were a gimmick selling point during 2000s, but what it amounts to is you get stuck every step on some physics-based object. This is not cover-based shooter, it is just 3rd person shooter, so you get shot at from everywhere which makes you feel like you are constantly getting focked. The Hale boss fight is absurdly unbalanced where last 30s you need to time all your inputs perfectly otherwise you get insta-killed. Story is nonsense and jumps all over the places with themes and cliches. Nobody cares anyway. I will say it is the only Red Faction game I can tolerate, 1 and 2 are just too old and I hate open-world time waste, so now Guerilla for me. 6/10 and only for hardcore shooter fans with nostalgia. They do not make AAA linear campaigns anymore, though there must be at least 100 more better games than this. Worth picking up like I did after it sat 10 years in my backlog since nothing AAA studios made in the last 5 years is playable.

This one was just as good as the first. The time manipulation wrist gadget was the best part of the game. I like how I'm able to shoot rainbows through a unicorn's butt, though. 11/10
