✦ AI summary

BARRIER X is a fast-paced dodge-and-shoot game with quick loops and responsive mechanics that appeal to players who enjoy high-difficulty challenges, featuring impressive visuals and good music that sync well with gameplay. However, the game suffers from a steep and punishing difficulty curve, eye-strain inducing visuals at high speeds, poor color contrast that makes lane identification difficult, and a frustrating 100% completion grind that many find unmotivating.
Short Review
BARRIER X is a brutally fast dodge-and-shoot game that stopped being fun for me around level two and never really recovered. The visuals are technically impressive but become a full-on eye strain assault the moment the speed picks up, and the difficulty curve is punishing without offering much in return. The 60-second survival requirement for 100% completion is also exactly as painful as it sounds. I don't recommend this one.
Full Review
I shelved BARRIER X for years after hitting a wall in the early levels. The difficulty just overwhelmed me, and I had no real motivation to push through it. I only came back after finishing Lilac 0 (another difficult game), thinking maybe a fresh perspective would help. It didn't. Some games age better in your memory than they do on a second playthrough, but BARRIER X is just inherently flawed. The visuals. On paper, BARRIER X looks impressive. The graphics are slick, fast, and technically well put together. In practice, that same visual intensity becomes a serious problem the moment you're actually playing the game at speed. The combination of hectic movement, flashing effects, and the sheer amount happeni…

Simple game, simple mechanics, quite fun! I honestly didn't expect much of it, but because the game loops is extremely quick (you die and you can spam almost instantaneously) I kept trying and trying until I start beating the levels. Still working on the 100% completion though. Fair warning: You will die, A LOT, SO MANY TIMES, in all levels. The main mechanic stays the same (avoiding crashes), but each level introduces a new rule, and it takes time and practice to adapt. This may cause frustration on some people, so just be aware before you buy it. It supports ultrawide monitors. I've played this on a 3440x1440@180 fps, and also on my Steam Deck. You will enjoy it if you don't feel frustrated.

Garbage color design in a game that depends on you being able to tell what the color of the lane you are on is. It is impossible to tell whether or not the lane next to you is safe because the colors mix together and the lanes mix in the perspective you cannot see if it safe or not.

i liked how its fast paced and the music and the visuals match perfectly
