About Daymare: 1998

✦ AI summary

Fight your way through a research facility overrun by mutated creatures while unraveling a conspiracy across three playable characters, each offering a unique perspective on the nightmare unfolding. This love letter to '90s survival horror delivers that era's punishing resource scarcity and strategic combat with modernized graphics and visceral enemy detail.

DAYMARE: 1998 is a third-person survival horror game that recreates the mood of iconic titles from the '90s, with a fresh storyline. An incident that turns a small town into a deadly zone, three characters to play with and little time to find the truth, before its mutated citizens abruptly end your mission.

✦ AI summary

Daymare: 1998 is a Resident Evil-inspired survival horror game that players appreciate for its atmosphere, level design, puzzles, and nostalgic 90s aesthetic, with compelling character stories that mostly land well. However, the game suffers from janky combat mechanics, obscure puzzle solutions, uneven pacing across chapters, and various polish issues including achievement bugs that detract from the experience.

The positives? I do like the environments. The graphics, despite everyone looking like a potato, and most of all, there is some puzzles I thought was pretty good. I really liked LIev in this one and I really hated that he was gone already. Raven has that weird softness to it that makes me really root for him. Sam is such a tragic character, but I do find his dialogue funny because of the excessive swearing he did. Story is pretty alright. Granted, there are some inconsistencies within the dialogue of the characters, but it's ok. Negatives? It is so jank. The gunplay is jank. The melee is jank. The sprint button is jank. Daymare feels more like normal mode rather than hardcore mode. The fountain puzzle is such doodoo because you have to not be blind to know that Fort Fauntain (whatever it was called) sign is the North side and while I do get it, I don't care, I hate it. Digusting. Sandman sucks, never liked him at the beginning, and never liked him near the end anyway. I skipped the last few cutscenes because I already saw the cutscenes in other playthroughs. I didn't even bother to play the Tactical mode nor the other difficulties because I ultimately did not care. Result: …

Ok I guess, at times I really liked it, chapter 2 and 3 were the stand outs, but 5 took a nose dive, I was going to give a more positive review before that chapter, but its good enough to make me want to play its prequel.

A robust and entertaining RE2 clone, with its own personality and identity. I like the optional reload mechanic and overall a very solid title. Great atmosphere and level design. The only issue I have is that I thought I would have encountered more zombies roaming around or inside the several facilities and buildings levels. But overall I can't complain too much, I get scared with little, so... :)

I don't know, I left a positive because I enjoyed most of my play through, but it has so many issues at the same time. First I beat the game, but only got achievements for 1,2 and 5 which is weird. So if you are an achievement hunter, best of luck. The puzzles are often really obscure or just an absolute pain to solve, so I just spent my time skipping a lot of them or looking up the codes. I enjoy the puzzles in the RE games, this just annoyed me. The initial character you play as is a terrible person and makes it a hard start. You switch to two other characters after and that isn't that well done. You get to play the ending of one character but get a cutscene ending for the other. After beating the game it gives you a cutscene, 2 audio logs and a text log to try and explain things. It's very much a RE story knockoff in a lot of ways story wise. Gameplay wise it tries to be RE but very janky in comparison. It also has some blatant knockoff situations where they were like the Temu version of the same thing. Then there are things like reloading the shotgun. You press the reload button and it reloads 1 shell. You have to hold down reload to reload all the shells. S…
Flawed But Scratches The Itch For Survival Horror
I cannot recommend this for the full price, but feel free to grab it from sale if you need a Survival Horror game to play. I didn't quite like the feel of this game when I played the demo, but after discovering the Modern-Take Mode, I found it tolerable. PROS: ➕ Survival Horror; You manage your inventory, conserve ammo, solve puzzles, and choose whether to kill the zombie in front of you or pistol-whip it and run past. ➕ Atmosphere; The dark environments and sound effects keep up a sufficiently creepy atmosphere. ➕ Modern-Take Mode; If you’ve played the demo, you probably know about the game mechanic where you have to manage magazines. While it does add a bit more realism and make you more vulnerable, it is horribly tedious work to keep reloading magazines after every fight. This game mode does away with that and just lets you load bullets directly into the gun. NEUTRAL: ⚪ Chapter 3 Difficulty Spike; If you played the Demo previously and then started a new game, you might notice that Chapter 1 is somewhat easy. But if you haven't learned how to avoid battles by Chapter 3, you…

It is far from polished game but if you are looking for some nostalgia from 90s it will deliver. They captured the atmosphere very well.
