The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse lurk in the shadows before you. They are Death, Pestilence, Famine, and War. They are the root of all that is evil, but the least of your worries. The last of the three Serpent Riders, Eidolon, yet lives.

As the spellcasting Necromancer, the stealthy Assassin, the defensive Crusader, or the offensive Paladin, you must defeat the dark generals and their Hell-spawned legions before you can face the archfiend Eidolon and attempt to end his ravenous onslaught. Go in peace and you will surely die.

Notice how almost all the reviews of this game has less than 4 hours usually, including mine? This game needs a serious remaster. I don't know what the devs were smoking when they made Hexen but this game is just way too much of an over convuluted, cryptic ass hell labyrinth to be any fun what so ever without having to resort to a guide for almost every map. It sucks because everything else that is there..is really fkn good. Hexen is a metal as hell world with a very ominous and dark atmosphere, crazy good playable characters and awesome enemies, great music, combat, the imagination; these games were clearly designed with passion and heart. But this game was also designed for the most absolute hardcore masochistic freaks of 90's PC gaming imaginable too, and that's what really hurts this title..This game could use a serious remaster. I'm all down for a "Not holding your hand" type of experience, but Hexen is just way too much.

I can't recommend this game, but that's not to do with the game itself but Id & Steam's handling of this game. It will not launch. Period. It isn't your settings, your GPU, or what version of Proton or Windows you're using, the executable is broken and known to be broken. How they have the giant stones to ask a fiver for a 29 year old game that is broken is beyond me. Especially when there is an available community fix. Someone needs to pull out their copy of Claude code and fix this since we're laying off developers left and right, or Steam should delist this. Money is being collected for something that is known not to work. It's only the fact that it's so well known not to work that I don't call it outright fraud.

Most underrated game ever. One on the best id tech quake engine games ever if not the best... However... Selling this on steam should be illegal. Its really old doesnt have proper support for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anything, but the worst part is that you GET ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NOTHING WITH THIS! 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DOLLARS AND I DONT GET ♥♥♥♥, NO EXPANSION AND NO MUSIC AT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ALL WTF?? HOW CAN YOU SELL A GAME THAT IS MISSING HALF OF THE GAME. Buy this if nightdive does a remake/remaster otherwise dont bother.

This is probably the game I would use as a prime example of bad level design. This is one of those "where the actual ♥♥♥♥ do I go?" or "play with an open guide" kind of game, but in the worst was possible. The objectives are unclear, the puzzles are too cryptic and the level design is confusing as hell, probably even more so than Hexen 1. The combat (using the Paladin class) is kinda weird and janky in the way that damage might feel random at times and the enemies have poorly telegraphed moves like dodging, deflecting or just regular attacks; even if it's subpar it's not even close to being the worst part of the game, the level design and progression take that spot. There are also soft RPG mechanics tacked on, like gaining experience and leveling up from killing enemies, they just translate to higher stats (such as max health) and passive skills that may not be that good or are just underwhelming: the Paladin has a skill to move faster underwater and not drowning; and a skill that has 20% chance (at max level) to revive him when dying. I just hope if or when Microsoft/Nightdive/ID/MachineGames makes a remaster that they address these issues because otherwise I don't think I would c…
