What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Shadow Ninja: Apocalypse is a reflex-based 2D platformer that demands quick reactions and precise timing, with responsive controls that mostly work as intended. However, players consistently criticize the game for its extreme repetitiveness across 85 levels that never introduce new mechanics or meaningful variety, coupled with poor obstacle visibility against dark backgrounds and occasional control issues that undermine the precision required. Players feel the game is not worth its asking price given the monotonous design and lack of progression.
Simple 2D platformer where you run and avoid obstacles ✅Requires reflexes and timing ❌Repetitive, meaning it's always the same: run and avoid obstacles ❌No new mechanics. New levels dont introduce any new mechanics ❌Jumps don't always work as expected ❌The game isn't worth the price ❌Poor obstacle clarity (dark background, barely visible traps) ❌❌ Verdict: [b] Terrible [/b], [strike] Bad [/strike], [strike] Mediocre [/strike], [strike] Decent [/strike], [strike] Good [/strike] , [strike] Very Good [/strike] (Rating scale for short games, retro indie simulator games and similar) [quote]If you'd like to see more of my reviews, you can find them on my curator page:[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45994324/admin/reviews_manage/]CuratorKingViking[/url] and on my group: [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/CuratorKingViking]GroupKingViking[/url] If you have any questions about my reviews, feel free to ask.I'm happy to answer them. Seeing the reviews for the game I expected it to be terrible, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not that horrible nor did I have problems with the controls. However the game drags on for 85 very repetitive levels and is extremely boring. It doesn't introduce any new mechanics, or anything at all. Just the same thing over and over again. There were even a few levels where I wondered if the game bugged out and it replayed the same level because the beginning looked exactly like the previous levels. Works without any issues on Linux with Proton (9.0-4).2 found this helpful
Repetitive
Shadow Ninja: Apocalypse is a side-scrolling action platformer built around speed, reflexes, and constant survival pressure. The game embraces an old-school arcade mentality where precision and repetition matter far more than cinematic storytelling or complex progression systems. Players take control of a deadly ninja warrior navigating dangerous stages filled with enemies, spikes, traps, and environmental hazards designed to punish hesitation instantly. Rather than focusing on exploration or narrative depth, the experience centers entirely on maintaining momentum and surviving increasingly difficult obstacle courses through quick reactions and mechanical skill. From the beginning, the game establishes a fast and aggressive pace. Movement feels responsive, with quick jumps, rapid attacks, and smooth traversal encouraging players to keep moving instead of approaching levels cautiously. The controls are straightforward but effective, allowing the gameplay to remain focused on reflexes and timing. Running through stages while dodging traps and eliminating enemies creates a satisfying rhythm once players become familiar with the mechanics. The simplicity of the controls works in the g…
