Corpse of Discovery

Wow. That was very good. Moving, really. And sad. Or happy? I don't know... For me, it was sad. Definitely recommended, particularly if you are a parent. I can only assume the 'mixed' rating has more to do with the audience than anything wrong with the game itself. I took it as a story about regret. That some things in life you never get back. Anyway, definitely a very good game.

But oh boy, the flaws. Not bugs (it never crashed), but just poor or unpolished implementation of almost every aspect of the game. I personally enjoyed it nonetheless, but I have a high tolerance for imperfection. The standout feature of the game is the story, which I usually don't care for in games, but here it's well-integrated into the gameplay, and often told via narration, so that there's very little sitting around doing nothing. It's an interesting sci-fi mystery and also pretty humorous, with a dash of social commentary to boot. But even here, there are problems - the story itself kind of goes off the rails at the end, and for all the narration-based storytelling, you'd think they would have played the dialogue back loud enough that you weren't constantly straining to hear it over all the other environmental sounds. This has potential and might appeal, but I can't recommend it based on my playthrough. I stopped playing on the second planet after failing several times on a platforming section near the end and having to replay over and over and kept dropping back to the start. I guess I got frustrated and wasn't hooked enough to continue to flail at the platforming to continue the story. I looked and see there's several more planets, platforming parts, and floating terrain so I stopped my playthrough there. + I was engaged in the story. Was honestly curious about what was going on. + Starting base visually appealing. + I only saw 2 planets/levels/generations, but was curious about the changes in the base between restarts. Seems foundation for interesting story there. + Planet generation reminded me a bit of No Man's Sky and first seeing and exploring new planet was pretty cool (but see below, exploration quickly gets kindof long and repetitive imho). + I am genuinely interested in one of the creatures I see - most of the game is traversing a map to highlighted waypoints. - distance between objectives is needlessly far apart, w/ lots of running and jumping. - lots of obstacles/ravines/cl…

Flawed but worth it for $2.

Wow what a journey! I can understand why some people didn't like the game. I guess it has an auidience and I'm one of them! I love the little puzzles and tricks that I had to figure out, and all the message throughout was great. It definetely made me question some stuff in life. Thank you so much for a great game! ps: It is better to be played with mouse, the controller sensitivity is too high and when I tried to adjust it, the game got crashed. But all is well! :D

Oof, okay, this will be interesting. First and foremost: SPOILERS So proceed only if you have already played the game, or don't care if the game is spoiled for you before playing it, or you have no plans of playing and for some reason are curious as to what I thought of it. While I do reluctantly recommend playing this game, that recommendation comes with some pretty heavy caveats. On the one hand, I get what the game is trying to do. And the message is very much NOT wrong. It's very, very right. That's important. And it's worth hearing, which is why I recommend the game. It's pretty clear, also, that love was put into making this game, so I also tend to recommend games for that reason: experience someone else's perspective, maybe we'll learn something new. On the other hand though, I'm very conflicted about how this message was delivered, and how meta the game ends up being. You see, the main character is you.
