About Lydia
Lydia is a haunting visual novel where you experience childhood through the eyes of a young girl coping with her parents' substance abuse, guided only by her beloved teddy bear. This atmospheric 90-minute journey uses stunning grayscale art and an evocative original score to explore how a child's imagination transforms trauma into a battle against an ever-present monster.

Lydia is a story game in the vein of To the Moon. Spectacular gray-scale graphics with a hint of color and dark, ambient original soundtrack sets the tone for the melancholic story. Lydia is an emotional journey to the depths of the imagination of a small child.
Can you find the monster?
- Story first: Compact structure serves the story. The game lasts about 1.5 hours
- Gray-scale hand-drawn graphics
- Original score is composed by renowned film composer Juhana Lehtiniemi.

Lydia is a sweet little girl who loves her Teddy very much. Teddy has been with Lydia from the very beginning. Lydia can’t remember living or playing without him. Lydia has never adventured nor found crickets from the nearby playground without him. Lydia loves Teddy and Teddy loves her back.
Recently they’ve had difficulties sleeping. There are a lot of loud noises coming from downstairs. The adults are having their own adventures there. Every night, all the time.
And of course there is the Monster. It is always there, hiding somewhere in the shadows where the eye can’t see. Adults said that the monster isn’t real, that it’s all just imagination. But the adults are wrong. The monster is real, although Teddy keeps telling that it isn’t. He keeps telling that everything’s going to be all right.
Teddy will always be there, watching Lydia. Keeping the monster away. Making sure, that Lydia can sleep through the night.
But this time the sounds are louder than usual.

The developers definitely understand the subject matter. Incredibly, gut-twistingly portrayed, and exactly as long as it needed to be. Cathartic, too - thank you for that choice at the end.1 found this helpful
You know, some people shouldn´t be allowed to have children. Anyway, good short game to get depression and self-reflect about your life.1 found this helpful
Short, artsy story game, about the looming monster that alcoholism can become to the children of the alcoholic's family. At first I was a little bit torn whether to call this good or meh, but after a consideration, I'm tilting toward good. The reason is that the initial blast is not exactly subtle. It's a very heavy game about very real social issues and doesn't pull punches on that front, so much so that after initial impressions I was wondering if the game already revealed its hand. But luckily not - despite the unsubtle start, the story does have its high points, particularly towards the end! I think the writing and imagery is more memorable than what the beginning would let you believe. The game is very short, but I don't really hold it that much against it, the sub-5€ price feels right. Overall, pretty nice! ...as nice as games with this heavy subject matter can be, at least.1 found this helpful
it was a while ago i played this but i really enjoyed it! dark but meaningful.1 found this helpful
Where to start...it wouldn't be accurate to say that Lydia is a visual novel. Even though it is mostly about the story and reading, there are minor actions and movements in between. It's as if you're playing out the scenes that tell a sad and relatable story. There isn't too much text, it's well paced that it doesn't feel tiring to read. I wasn't sure about the game at the beginning but things kept building up, the last 2 chapters were the highlight. The art style is dark and striking, I can tell it's made by the same developer behind Voltage High Society. The different sounds are also strong. The dialogues in English are well written. When it comes to cons, the first one is obvious. The game doesn't start due to the game's age. Luckily, there is an easy guide to follow on steam forum. It took minutes to fix it. Secondly, there is no controller support. Steam's templates don't seem to work either. The buttons are minimal, it would have been the ideal game with a controller but I did it with the mouse mostly. I like the game, it might not set the world on fire but its story is raw and emotional. We need more such personal stories in games. I definitely recommend it if you're loo…
