About THE QUIET MAN™

✦ AI summary

THE QUIET MAN™ puts you in the shoes of a deaf protagonist fighting through a soundless world in fast-paced, visceral combat to uncover the truth behind a kidnapping. This cinematic action experience seamlessly blends live-action footage, cutting-edge CG, and brutal beat-em-up gameplay into a single-sitting narrative that lets you interpret the story your own way.

THE QUIET MAN™ delivers an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG and pulse-pounding action gameplay. Unravelling within a single night, players take the role of deaf protagonist Dane as he fights his way through a “soundless” world to discover the motives behind the kidnapping of a songstress from a mysterious masked man. Embark on an adrenaline-fueled motion picture like experience which can be completed in one sitting.

Disclaimers:
  • You play as a deaf character, Dane, and experience the world as the character does – with very little distinct audio and no subtitles: it’s up to you to make up your own interpretation of the story as your search for the masked man unfolds.
  • The content of this videogame is purely fictional, it is not intended to represent or depict any actual event, person, or entity, and any such similarities are purely coincidental. The makers and publishers of this videogame do not in any way endorse, condone, or encourage engaging in any conduct depicted in this videogame.
  • Subtitles will only appear when spoken dialogue is intended to be heard or understood.
  • For narrative purposes, no subtitles will be displayed for most scenes regardless of this setting.
  • Language will be auto-detected based on your Computer system software language settings.

KEY FEATURES
  • Experience a “soundless” world
The player not only controls Dane but also experiences the world in the way Dane does. As a deaf protagonist the audio landscape of the world he lives in consists of soundless and muffled audio, leaving it up to the player to make their own interpretation as the search for the masked man unfolds.
  • Exhilarating combat:
    - Experience fast, visceral and adrenaline-fueled combat choreographed by Tatsuro Koike, renowned for directing the action in the Yakuza franchise.
    - Simple on the surface, but with brutal combos, the combat system is easy to pick up like old school beat’em-up action games, whilst offering combat variation and thrill.
    - Unleash an arsenal of combat moves ranging from punch and kick combos, to grappling and throwing enemies.
    - Give stunned opponents a savage beat down or slam them into environment objects to set up brutal attacks.
    - Defend yourself with split second dodges that can result in close-shaves and counterattacks.
  • Blurring the lines between live action and gameplay
In addition to high production live action, THE QUIET MAN™ features state of the art CG sequences, facial animations produced in partnership with 3Lateral, Cubic Motion and Human Head Studios to deliver stunning visual fidelity, strongly-felt emotions such as rage, joy and pain, and enables seamless transition and continuity between live action, engine cut scenes and actual gameplay.

✦ AI summary

THE QUIET MAN is a beat 'em up that attempts an ambitious premise of removing audio to simulate a deaf perspective, but players largely agree it fails in execution. Most criticism centers on the game being more of a movie than an interactive experience, with minimal actual gameplay stretched across lengthy cutscenes, repetitive combat mechanics, and confusion even on subsequent playthroughs with sound restored. While the core concept draws some appreciation for its boldness, players generally recommend waiting for a significant sale rather than paying full price, if they recommend it at all.

listen, if you're reading this review and questioning if you should spend the $2.99 this game goes on sale for, I'll just sum it up like this: i genuinely cannot recommend it enough

‎I'm a sucker for beat 'em ups. ‎Been in the trenches of the side-scrolling wars since Spartan X, punched my way through Double Dragon, duke it up in Final Fight, survived the neon grime of Bare Knuckle, and even mastered the chaotic "Wait, why am I holding a grandfather clock?" energy of Dynamite Deka. ‎I live for this genre and horror aesthetic the most, among many others. ‎ ‎But this game? This game is a fascinating disaster. It feels less like a polished brawler and more like a half-baked senior thesis project that forgot its homework was due on Monday. ‎ ‎I stepped into this game ready to embrace the silence. The concept is profound: stripping away sound to put the player into a deaf perspective, turning every vibration and visual shift into a lifeline. It’s a bold, empathetic experiment in storytelling that I truly wanted to love. ‎But as I played, that initial spark of wonder faded. What should have been a deeply immersive journey felt more like a missed connection. It’s heartbreaking when a game possesses such a unique soul but lacks the substance to back it up. I didn't just want to see through a different lens; I wanted to feel the weight of that world, and unfortunately…

Pretty horrible example of a game. Out of the entire thing, you probably play around like 30 minutes of it and watch the rest. I wouldn't recommend this even to a person who enjoys playing trash games because you barely play anything at all. Unlike most trash games, it's not difficult (you can just spam the attack buttons), it's not entertaining to play, it's repetitive, you can't hear anything, and it's also a complete waste of time. It's supposed to be a cinematic game but it doesn't give you any sound until the second playthrough which is just as confusing as the version where you can't hear anything. I would suggest a skip cutscene button but unfortunately that would skip 80% of the game. To trash game lovers, do not waste your time on this one. It is not worth 20 dollars, 40 GB of storage, and about 4 hours.

The best-worst-most racist game i've ever played lol. Jesus Christ. A 3 hours game with heavy dialogue and no audio. Great concept there. I ain't playing it again are you nuts. You got to love media in NYC by people who clearly never step a foot in NYC. Chicano gangs? In New York? It's the wrong coast bro lmao there's no cholo gangs downtown I can assure you. This game is so racist you play Mc White Whiteyman being super horny by his mother or something and you just beat tf up the most racist latino and black people gang stereotypes possible. Anybody a little bit familiar with the city will die laughing on how insane it is. It's basically Gotham City lmao. I think everyone need to experience this game once. It's like "The Room" mixed with a republican's wet dream. I finished it in about 3 hours and almost passed out laughing.
