About Magicka 2

✦ AI summary

Cast up to five elements to create thousands of spells and obliterate hordes of enemies with up to three friends in this irreverent co-op adventure where friendly fire ensures hilarious magical disasters. Combine steam, ice, poison, and more with the franchise's dynamic spellcasting system while customizing your wizard with robes, staffs, and weapons to tackle a Nordic-inspired campaign filled with new artifacts that remix every playthrough.

The world’s most irreverent co-op action adventure returns! In the next chapter of Magicka, players ascend from the ruins of Aldrheim to experience a Midgård almost wiped free of Wizards after the Wizard Wars, with the few that do remain having either gone mad or extremely hostile toward all others.

To rid the world of evil, again, up to four Wizards, and their guide Vlad, will traverse Midgård armed with the next iteration of the famous Magicka dynamic spellcasting system, as players reprise their roles as the most overpowered, unpredictably funny Wizards ever known to fantasy!

Learn to Spell Again... Again!

Ye olde hybrid elements Steam and Ice from Magicka 1 are back, joined by the brand new Poison! This means tons of new spells to cast at friends and foes - complete with larger explosions and greatly improved graphics!

Learn to Spell Again

As an all-powerful Wizard, you will have thousands of spells at your fingertips to experiment and defeat evil with, use them together with special Magicks to annihilate foes or give necessary aid to your companions.
  • Combine up to five elements at a time and work together with—or against—your friends for that full Magicka co-op experience.
  • Four Player Friendly Fire Compatible Co-op
  • Full co-op support! All levels and game modes in Magicka 2 will be supported for four player co-op with hot join, checkpoints, and other supportive features and functionality.
  • Friendly fire is always on, promoting emergent gameplay humor as players accidentally hurt or kill their friends in their attempts to annihilate enemies.

Be the Wizard You Want to Be!

With tons of robes, staffs, and weapons you can play as the robed Wizard of your choice to wreak havoc amongst hordes of fantasy creatures as you see fit. Magicka 2's dynamic spellcasting system can be used in many different ways, offering hours of experimentation for players to figure out which spells belong in their repertoire. Add both co-op and friendly fire on top of that and you have a recipe for hilarious disasters.

Replay the Next Chapter with Artifacts

Magicka 2 offers players a story-driven campaign mode set in a lush fantasy world influenced heavily by Nordic folklore. New to the franchise are "Artifacts," which act as different switches and options for players to customize and change the gameplay experience, adding more replayability when utilized.

✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this sequel. Some appreciate the game and its mechanics like self-revival, while others criticize it for restricting spell-casting freedom compared to the original, viewing it as a significant downgrade. Character complaints and vague nostalgia comments suggest mixed feelings about how the game has evolved from its predecessor.

Magicka 2 keeps the fun spell-combination system, but the overall experience feels weaker than the original. The combat can become repetitive, the controls are still awkward, and the game lacks the same charm and impact. Fun in short sessions, but hard to recommend overall.

A review actually about the game. It is fun and completely chaotic. Super fun to play with a group of friends casually. Creative and fun spell combination system.

Not nearly as good as the first, but it's worth a playthrough.

I can understand a company's political stance; however, I cannot bring myself to play any game by this company, which goes beyond even its own rules and labels as controversial—through accusations with no support and no historical evidence—a person to whom UNESCO dedicated a year in their name, who placed only peace at the center of all their words and works, and who strived for a world without war as a legacy even before dying.

Magicka 2 is one of those games that sounds better on paper than it feels to actually play. The spell-combination system is creative, but the controls are clunky, combat gets messy very quickly, and half the difficulty comes from trying to execute what you actually want to do. Friendly fire is funny for the first few hours, but eventually it just becomes another source of frustration. Enemy encounters are repetitive, difficulty spikes are inconsistent, visual effects make fights hard to read, and solo play gets boring much faster than co-op. The game clearly expects you to play with friends, but even then it often becomes less “strategic co-op” and more “everyone accidentally kills each other until something works.” Some spell combinations are far better than others, so the whole idea of experimenting with magic becomes less interesting once you discover the strongest options. Boss fights can feel annoying rather than challenging, and the humor starts to wear thin after a while. It can definitely be fun with the right group of friends, but most of that fun comes from the chaos rather than the quality of the game itself. Clunky controls, repetitive combat, weak solo gameplay, q…
