The game doesn't support modern controllers out of the box; you have to configure them manually, and even when you go to the trouble of doing so, the tutorials display generic controller text not even icons. You are forced to use the mouse for the menus no matter what. It is unacceptable for a company the size of Ubisoft to leave the game in this state. I’ve refunded it; I’d rather play the GameCube version.
You need to do the simple fixes for the mist and maybe sound (can't remember), but don't be put off tinkering. Also you'll have to get through the first level until you get the dagger. Once you've got it working, it is a gem of a game. The a real sense of height and challenge for the acrobatic parts is fun. The fights can be challenging. However the key is to use the sands of time. Some enemies you can just keep jumping over, but those that you can't jump and attack off the walls. You'll not get through a later fight without using the sands. Remember if she is killed, use the sands too. When you finally get killed and have to restart that section, the voice over says "Wait, that's not how it happened", and you agree, I think I need to find a glass of water and start again..

A game that still feels magical after all these years. I used to play Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time many years ago, and coming back to it now feels like meeting an old friend again. ❤️ The nostalgia is incredible, but what surprised me the most is that I’m still genuinely enjoying the gameplay. The platforming, puzzles, combat, time-rewind mechanic, atmosphere and music all come together so beautifully. For a game this old, the level design and gameplay still feel surprisingly fun. There’s something special about running across walls, solving puzzles and using the Dagger of Time to correct your mistakes. 😄 I’m not playing this just because it’s an old game I remember. I’m playing it again because it’s still a great game. Some games are simply good. Some games become memories. And a few games become both. The Sands of Time is one of those games for me. ❤️ If you played this game years ago, I highly recommend going back to it. The nostalgia hits differently when you’re older.
