About A Hand With Many Fingers

✦ AI summary

A Hand With Many Fingers is a first-person investigative thriller where you uncover a real Cold War conspiracy by hunting through dusty CIA archives and connecting clues with corkboard and twine. What sets it apart is the intricate puzzle design that requires you to research specific names, dates, and locations to unlock new evidence, creating a mounting sense of paranoia as historical secrets unravel before you.

A Hand With Many Fingers is a first-person investigative thriller. While searching a dusty CIA archive you uncover a real Cold War conspiracy. Every document you find has new leads to research. But the archive might not be as empty as you think…

  • Slowly unravel a thrilling historical conspiracy
  • Discover new clues through careful archival research
  • Assemble your theories using corkboard and twine
  • Experience a story of creeping paranoia

How does it work?

The archive is sorted by name, date, and location. Finding new clues requires all three pieces of info (e.g. Frank Nugan, 1980, Australia). Every detail you need to know is hidden in the archive. But you’ll only find them if you know who was involved, when it happened, and where it took place. Average playtime for the game is around 1-2 hours.

WARNING: This game may induce nausea, especially if you have a history of motion sickness. Adjusting the Field of View in the settings menu might help. But if you're experiencing ongoing nausea, please stop the game immediately.

✦ AI summary

A Hand With Many Fingers is a short detective game investigating a real historical conspiracy that players praise for its interesting premise, physical card catalogue mechanics, and atmospheric setting, but consistently criticize for being too brief and lacking meaningful deduction or a satisfying conclusion. The game functions more as an interactive introduction to real events than a puzzle to solve, with most players wishing for more content and a more climactic ending. Players generally find it worth experiencing but note the brevity as a significant limitation.

Haven't let out a clearer ''What?'' in a long while, but when the credits popped up I was genuinely shocked. I didn't understand a single thing about this game I thought I was only at the beginning. What even happened?

Finished it in under an hour, was very confused when I got the ending (I apparently skipped some boxes by piecing together PH & Paul & Helliwel). Cool concept, way too short of a game. You don't actually have to figure anything out. Just go get the box that the card tells you to. Thats the entire game

I started off really liking the game function of having to browse through files to put together a mystery. Where this falls short is: * The games doesn't make you try to figure out the mystery of what happened. I didn't know the IRL story and I honestly still have no idea. I was hoping at some point to have to put all the clues together to solve it. * The abrupt end. This makes the game feel incomplete. I come back to a car crashed through the window with no idea as to why and the moment I leave the room, the game started to fade to black and it was just over. This could have been more. I was really hoping for a good mystery to have to piece through and solve, but this just honestly turned out to be a very weak version of what it seems this game wanted to be.

I finished *A Hand With Many Fingers* in 7.9 hours, and I have somewhat mixed feelings about it. The game started out quite confusingly. I basically began by looking for boxes based on the first card I found in one of the drawers, without really understanding what the game expected me to do. It took me a while to realize that the drawers themselves could be browsed, rather than simply being containers for whatever card happened to be visible. It also took me almost the entire game to discover that left-clicking functions as a kind of zoom mode, making it much easier to inspect the boards and read documents. Those are small things, but they made the beginning considerably more frustrating than it needed to be. Once I understood the system, the game became more coherent. You find a name, date and location, use those to locate a card in the archive, retrieve the corresponding box from the basement, go through its documents, and use what you discover to find another box. At first this still felt like a chore. There is a *lot* of going downstairs, finding a box, carrying it upstairs, reading through it, and then doing it all over again. I can imagine this being a great pleasure for so…

I loved The Roottrees are Dead so was looking forward to playing this, but I found the mechanics so tedious I couldn't continue.

Trash. Baby's first game. 9 years made it? Not impressed even then. Absolutely no effort into making it fun. Its a Unity default template project with convoluted junk.
