JUMANJI: The Video Game

[i]Jumani: The Video Game[/i] is another uninspired video game adaptation by the same publisher who graced us with others like [i]Trollhunters[/i], which was perhaps as equally as bad but in a different way. This is the second video game I have played from this studio and it has only further cemented my suspicion that they choose to do these adaptations not because they want to create a fun video game but because it is appealing to children and children do not really know what an objectively good video game is as they likely do not yet have anything to use as a frame of reference. They can pester their parent/guardian to purchase the game, if they are a fan, and not be any the wiser afterward. They'll play it for a few hours at most, not realizing why they are so bored, but stop questioning it due to a short attention span and just go to some other video game whilst the developers have gotten their money out of them. These developers not being held to a certain standard allows them to operate predatorily, as surely any passionate video game designer would not be satisfied with the result of this video game if it wasn't just something they churned out over a few weeks of crunch-time…

Ah yes, Jumanji: The Video Game. A game I played not because I was having fun, not because I was invested in the story, and certainly not because I wanted to... I finished it because I started it. That's literally it. The gameplay is about as exciting as watching paint dry while the paint is also bored. You run around, shoot some enemies, do the same things over and over again, and occasionally wonder why you're still playing. The game isn't necessarily horrible. It's just... aggressively mediocre. Nothing about it made me angry enough to uninstall it, but nothing made me excited enough to recommend it either. At some point I reached the stage of gaming where I wasn't playing to have fun anymore. I was playing because there was a little voice in my head saying: "You started this. Now finish the damn thing." And so I did. I walked through the entire game like a man completing a prison sentence, watching the percentage slowly climb until that beautiful moment when I could finally say: "Thank God, it's over." This game is everything you think a licensed game would be. It has the gameplay of something from the PS2 era. I got this as a part of a larger bundle but wouldn't recommend anyone purchase it.

Jumanji is a fun little co-op game, especially if you’re a fan of the movies. The jungle environments, characters and simple gameplay fit the Jumanji theme nicely, and playing it with friends can be pretty entertaining. It does get repetitive after a while, though, and the gameplay is fairly basic. Still, it's a decent game to jump into for some casual co-op fun.

Hey what can I say? It's not bad, it's not good, it just is. I love the Jumanji movies so I had to pick these up but I can't recommend these games to anyone else if you're not a huge Jumanji fan. There's simply not enough here to warrant the price. Objectives are copy paste and so are most of the levels. But if you have young kids this might be a good starter up to get them into gaming.

This game is boring. Only play if you get it for free.
