Danger!Energy 2018 is a really interesting little puzzle game that I ended up enjoying more than I expected. The idea is simple because I am connecting points with neon rays, but the futuristic setting gives the whole thing more personality than a normal line connecting puzzle. I liked the idea of trying to free the virtual city of Santermonia from the control of the Main Virtual Controller while solving increasingly difficult layouts. The main gameplay is built around connecting nodes without making mistakes, and the simplicity of the controls makes it very easy to understand. What I liked most is that the puzzles gradually start requiring more thought instead of simply asking me to connect everything in the most obvious way. I have to pay attention to how the lines interact with the board and think ahead before committing to a route. The different themed areas also help keep the gameplay from feeling completely repetitive. Each part of the city introduces its own variations and gives the puzzles a slightly different flavor. "Danger!Energy" is a simple console (Xbox) ported puzzle game that looks like more of a mobile app than a console game, let alone a PC game. Yet here we are. What do you do in the game? Put your finger on your iPhone screen and draw a path through various nodes to solve puzzles. There's 80 levels, but more of a bad thing doesn't make it better. And wow, 4:3 aspect ratio. This was probably developed on a monitor they found in a dumpster. Which, perhaps ironically, is where this product landed very shortly afterwards... it was a dismal failure for obvious reasons. While I couldn't find this on the mobile app stores, everything about it looks and feels like it's a mobile app designed for mobile phones... for PC gaming enthusiasts, it's not going to give you a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That alone is enough to disqualify this from any recommendation. We don't spend thousands building gaming rigs so that we can pretend they're iPhones and play iPhone games and mobile apps.
