Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!

Since its release in 1997 Starship Troopers has had numerous live action and animated sequels and a fair amount of video game tie-ins. Most fall short of the pure satirical yet poignant glory of that original film. Ultimate Bug War however finally gives fans not only a fantastic continuation of the first films lore (rightfully ignoring most of the sequels) but also a faithful,fun and fully rounded video game experience. While other games based on the franchise got some aspects right, Bug War gets it ALL right. The overly cheesy military propaganda, the patriotism, the guns, the violence and of course the bugs! its all here in spades. With a decently sized single player campaign that lets players take on the role of a new human character in the Federation working alongside the likes of Johnny Rico AND at long last allows us to play as and contol the Bugs (the first game in the franchise to do so). The gameplay is exactly what you'd want from this title. When playing as the human, stylish and satisfying gunplay featuring a huge variety of firearms,explosives and weapons. One of the best movie to game adaptations ever made. Got to relive my childhood with this game. Love the movie and this game. Hopefully they make DLC expansions and a sequel. This game a lot of fun.

Excellent retro FPS action from a developer experienced in the art! I'll break the more in-depth review into two parts: gameplay and authenticity Gameplay This is a retro FPS game. Based on the gameplay and graphics, I'd place it more in the N64 era where polygon-heavy enemies and scenery still coexisted with lots of sprites. Except obviously this game does not have any of the limits of the N64. The levels are absolutely enormous, there are mulitple objectives for each stage, and they change during gameplay. This simulates that this is a large-scale war, and running into fellow soldiers is normal. Difficulty-wise, this game can get very hard, very fast. That's fairly normal for retro FPS titles. This developer likes to add god mode and unlimited ammo cheats into the game's menu, which is useful if you're enjoying the game and suddenly get overwhelmed by bugs. The game does not penalize you for using these cheats. I like having them this easily available, because if we're emulating games we played in the past, we all knew the cheat codes to the games we played, and there ususally were no consequences to using them. finally a game where you play as the good guys! a badass power fantasy the likes of which have not seen since spec ops the line! war is absolutely cool and awesome, now if you excuse me, I'm going to enlist in the federation.

This game is a lot of fun!

Had a blast playing this. the core gameplay is incredibly addictive and weapons are all very fun. but i got through the campaign on veteran within 5 hours, which is a shame because it leaves you wanting more. It definitely isnt worth full price because of how short it is but i recommend getting it on sale.
