Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories

Don't drink melon soda. 3.4 hours for one playthrough without guides, 16/20 achievements obtained just by being curious and sticking my nose places it maybe shouldn't have been! Which is what Melon Journey excels at: taking you on a journey made interesting by the level of curiosity you bring along the ride. It's great at making you feel smart, when you have an inkling on where you need to go, and then by walking into the right room at the right moment, you unlock another part of the story. There's a nostalgia here too, referencing gameboy-aesthetics as well as game mechanics (needing to wait for the animation to finish before you can move). The two main characters, Honeydew and Cantaloupe, allow for naming inputs at the start. I put in my name and the name of my closest friend, and it filled out blanks that the story leaves. It feels like a purposeful choice, since there is this option to choose the names, and it worked for me! In the writing I saw commentaries on themes such as manipulation, addiction, capitalism, inherited status, and rebellion. And there's lesbians! Cute game with a lot more story than I initially expected. Perfect on the Steam Deck, for that extra Gameboy feeling. Don't forget to save once in a while...

Pretty short and sweet, but there's a ton of dialogue and little interactions even outside of the sidequests and achievement hunting. If you want a nice little adventure game with corny humor, this is pretty great.

monochromatic masterpiece!

Such a charming little game! This is just the right game for people who are looking for a stress-free, not too long (< 5 hours), story driven game. No battles, no grinding, no time pressure, just adorable characters and a cute story with a twist.

at first the graphic of green pixel led me to buy the game n once i played it, i loved the story n characters living in hog town! very goofy and cute <3
