About Night Hacking

F4stTurt13 is a grey hat, earning a living by completing bug bounties. He hasn’t left his apartment in years. Unexpectedly, he’ll find himself in the midst of conspiracies and on a dangerous path to uncover the truth.
World: In 2032 a large-scale natural disaster ravaged the entire world. It took years for mankind to recover, and two large opposing “countries” were formed in the aftermath. This story is set in the Eastern Alliance of Democracies, comprising Eurasia and Eastern Africa.
Tech: Due to government policies, the computing power of devices personally owned can’t exceed 1GFLOP. However, an illegal tool, named NeuralNet Jack, was developed and allowed to use the human brain as a “CPU”.
Net: The content available on the net is heavily censored, leading to the creation of an alternative distributed network, called ShadowNet. Its use is considered a crime, but a sizable part of the population (25-30%) access it daily. The main contributors to the Snet infrastructure and code are members of the Neon Knights Collective. Night Hacking is, mostly, an interactive story narrated through chats, files, and websites The hacking process is guided / simple and includes a few “minigames” 7 - 10 hours of content depending on your reading speed and interest in “side” content There are a few decisions that will impact the ending
Note: saving happens only at the end of each level. (Demo progress carries over)

Lots of pressure in being the first and only review so far. I'm gonna try to be honest, but before that I just have to say, please at least try the demo. It did pleasantly surprise me at one point, enough to buy the game. Seeing an indie game be completely neglected is really unfortunate. - It's weird to play a game where I'm a hacker and I never have to use the keyboard. And overall just not a very convincing fake OS. (I don't think that was ever a goal of this game, but it did hurt my immersion) Can't move around windows, files aren't stored anywhere. - The Slay the Spire-ish minigame is fine, and I like the animations, but I feel like the appeal of that type of gameplay is the deckbuilding, so getting preset decks and upgrades when the story warrants it is just much less interesting than I think it could have been. Fights were never complex enough to the point where I felt like my choices influenced the outcome of a battle. - A few typos, but nothing that ruined my understanding of a conversation. Also, I realize that emoticons probably have different connotations for different people, but when I'd respond with a ":/" to somebodies sad backstory, it did feel a bit tone deaf. …
