Arcadia Fallen II

It's a good story game that does a lot right, but not everything. Anyway, it has a way more interesting magic academy setting than Harry Potter for sure. The story's academy is nestled at the locus of political influence, public interests, private ambitions, magic worldbuilding and individual every day stories. The opening is polished, expositions of loose strings are well done and all of them are getting resolved in the end after proper development. That is, for the NPCs at least. The MC feels out of place pretty often. They don't even get a background. No family is ever mentioned, nor do they seem to have ambitions beyond overcoming the next conflict in the story. There are parts where you feel like nothing more than a messenger and errand runner for the NPCs who are more important than you. There are situations where the story addresses this, and there are some scenes that center you, but it's never directly about you. It's very obviously part of the message that this game wants to deliver that you are not the most important, special person that has ever wandered this fictional world. An amazing game and an incredible continuation of the first game. I honestly loved the character interactions and how the academy felt "lived in" despite not many characters appearing (for example, staff members). Observations [*]The game loop itself is slightly less dynamic than the first game, [spoiler] the sneaking through the academy felt more repetitive and less engaging that the amulet system in the first game, not to mention that the potion crafting made it feel more built into the world [/spoiler] [*]Characters were amazing, and I'm sad I won't get to meet them for the first time again [*]Artstyle is a vast improvement from the first game, [spoiler] and Hannah's Darling Wildflower has been on stuck in my head for days, I can't stop listening to it! If you are looking for something that meets the often conflicting criteria of interesting and very relaxing, play this game.

Great game with a compelling story and well written characters. The puzzles are simple but require some thought. One of the best fetures in the game is letting you "import" your decisions from the first game by just selecting the relevant ones without fiddleing with savefiles. The game also letts you imagine what the characters from the fist game are doing, other than the ones actualy in the game since they are only described vaguely. I did not notice much impact from the choice of discipline but a lot of coices are to define your character so it is nice flavour. The game is well worth the price to me but players less invested in the overarching story might want to wait for a discount.
