House (2020)

The short of it is that this game is tedious. The puzzle of the house unravels too slowly because it often comes down to trial and error. Sure a full run isn't very long but dying often feels unfair (especially with the scissor lady) meaning you have to repeat the same steps over and over again. The Melody portion of the game is particularly awful. Unlike Tabby's portion, it only has one end which makes running through with her fairly straight forward and boring. But to top it off, the Melody portion crashes frequently, especially when dying, but also when textboxes appear, or sometimes without any seeming cause. I rate this game 5 buckets of nuclear waste out of 46 chocolate covered waffles.

It's all a sick game, Tabby. It never ends. We are going to end it.

While my original review had a not recommended verdict in lieu of a neutral option to warn about the issues I had experienced the dev not only taking notice but taking action in the form of a patch has changed my rrecommendation. The crashes and accidental loss of my save data were far from an ideal experience, but now both of these should be non-issues for future players. It's always nice to see an indie dev who cares about their games as much as this dev does. After the issues I had, not only did he take note, but he pushed a patch almost immediately afterwards that addresses a bunch of the issues and enabled Steam cloud. The game itself is really well done, I absolutely love the pixel art and animations; it's a really well done homage to the horror genre and I'm super excited that there's a sequel to go check out.
